Hi all just wondering what you lot do in this situation, I'm guessing it's somewhat common;
I have an SD STB set to 16:9, my Lite-On LVW-5045 DVD/HDD Recorder set to 16:9 and of course my Panasonic 66cm Widescreen CRT set to 16:9.
When I record things to DVD the video shows up as 4:3 in PC's (and even before it's transferred whilst on the HDD if I check the advanced information).
It's no problem for me, as playback is in the correct aspect ratio on my setup - and my friends systems who have 16:9 TV's.
But when I give discs to people with 4:3 TV's the video is squished and stretched upwards.
What can I do about this?
Someone once mentioned maybe Adobe Premiere or other editing programs may rectify this, something to do with the pixel pitch...
What does everyone do about it?

Well, you can IFO-EDIT the .IFO file on the DVD to have 16:9 flags, I guess your DVD recorder doesn't honour the forced 16:9 setting for recording mode (it must just be the output mode).
Of course this is a pain in the butt, as it means essentially burning 2 discs (you could use -RW I suppose).

What do I do about it?
... I don't use my DVR any more. I use my Toppy and download the recording to PC via USB and then edit and burn with my PC's burner.

Yep, that is actually what I do too, but only to "must keep" stuff, which is probably only a few shows a year.

Thanks a heap Tony I've had fantastic results doing what you suggested!
