Hi,
Can someone please help me before I pull all my hair out.
I have a high definition LG LST 4100 STB (which is the same model now upgraded to LG LST 5100).
It is connected to a 37" LG LCD via the DVI input.
I cannot get any sound when in the DVI mode. I have followed the manual instructions to a tee and have tried every RCA plug available on the LCD TV without any luck. I am currently viewing the digital TV via the AV channel but the picture quality is no where near the quality received via the DVI connection.
What other audio formats may be available to me?
Can someone also please confirm that the Component ports are video only? I'm assuming Component plugs do not transmit audio signals?

As far as I'm aware niether DVI nor component has any integrated audio. On my LG plasma there's a small 3.5mm stereo audio socket that apparently is the audio input for both the DVI and VGA inputs.
I had the LST 4100 connected to my LG plasma via component and the picture quality was excellent.
If you have component input on your TV there should also be 2 associated RCA audio sockets where you would connect the stereo audio output from the STB's RCA sockets.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that info rpant.
I do have the associated RCA audio sockets that you are referring to and I have tried them several times...and with a couple of different cables, to no avail.
I probably will give the Components a go, but the video side of it is not an issue as the DVI video transmission of the digital picture is perfect, but I cannot get any audio happening whatsoever.

Anyone else has any thoughts on what the issue may be regarding "no audio" being output?
Any feedback will be very appreciated.

As rpant suggests, it's probably not an RCA socket you are looking for, but rather a small 3.5mm audio jack. What model tv do you have?

Hi MadMax,
Any info you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
The STB model is the LG LST 4100P.
The TV model is the LG RT37LZ30.

A quick look at the manual shows that the audio input for DVI is via the PC audio jack. I suggest you purchase a RCA to audio jack cable from Dick Smith or Jaycar (less than $10) and try that. However this input does appear to be for PC only and may cause you problems when trying to display 1080i @ 50hz. Yopu may be better off using the component inputs.

I have used a 5100P with DVI and Optical. also Svideo and L/R RCA without a problem.
Have you tried the Svideo route (side of panel)?
My only other thought is that maybe the volume control in the STB is set to zero?

Hi Samson,
I'm interested to know if you got this working?
I am experiencing a similar problem with the LST-4100p and audio when connecting via DVI, however I have the RT42PX10.
Did the PC audio jack work in the audio input? and did you have the change the display settings of the STB to get this to work correctly? Also which audio out plugs did you use on the STB?
Cheers.
