I have a Humax PVR and LG Lafinion analogue widescreen TV, we live in an apartment in West Melbourne and every few weeks we get digital reception problems with 1 or more channels, nothing new there, but what is strange is that it also affects our analogue reception (the backup!), i.e. we get digital breakup on the analogue as well.

Most recently (tonight) it has happened with Channel 9, I called them and asked if there are any transmittion problems, but no nothing from their end.

It has me stumped, its not like our analogue is ghosting or we are getting static which is what I would expect, it gets blocky on motion and the audio pops... i.e exhibits digital breakup...

Im sure the TV wouldnt digitise the analogue reception before displaying it and its a problem with the tv as you play a dvd and everything is fine.. and I would have though interference from another apartment would result in static etc

Anyone have any clues as to what it is?

Are your neighbours having problems with their reception too?

How many apartments in the block?

West Melbourne is a particularly bad area for reception... if your nieghbours in the block are having problems ask the body corporate managers to get someone into have a look at the problem... If more than one person is having problems they will normally do something after some prodding..

It's possible (in a larger block) that what your analog signal is a transmodulated digital signal... therefore the analog would exhibit the same problems as digital.

I am in spencer street west melbourne, and for me it is channel 10 that is unwatchable. had problems with 7 a while ago, but it is now all mickey mouse.

I don't know why channel 10 has gone balls up but it was working perfectly a fortnight ago.

I am on Collins / Spencer West Melbourne and im getting quite serious reception issues with Channel 7 & 7 HD all other channels appear to be fine.
During the day its generally ok (bar the quite frequent glitch's and skips in video) but it seems to get worse at night, to the point where it is no longer watchable, sort of like freeze frame with abit of sound here and there

Indeed there is - a really, really big residential property in the form of "Liberty Tower" (I think that's what it's called anyway).

It's only a few years old and should be fully equipped for digital TV reception.

Perhaps work on Southern Cross Station is the culprit again? They do most of that work at night.

I'm only a block and a half away from there and I have had no issues with reception on any channel lately (aside from the usual daytime SBS glitching - because of trams - wrecking my recordings of Top Gear biggrin.gif)
