Hi All

I have been reading all your post prior to buying my Acer and I must say you know your stuff.

A bit of background...The TV arrived yesterday and I spent last night setting it up. I have bought it purely for watching TV and have purchased a Toshiba HD STB for it also. However, last night I ran it straight from the internal SD Tuner as I want to see what difference in picture quality I will get when I connect the STB to it.

I must say, for the price and just through the in-built tuner, it offers a very good picture. (I have been spoilt for picture quality by my Loewe 64" CRT). Although, I must say the broadcasters do treat us free to air viewers with contempt, when you see the inconsistency in the quality of shows thrown our way on digital TV.

I'm going to watch it for another day through the in-built tuner and then connect the Toshiba STB up to it and evaluate the difference.

I purchased it from Dick Smith Powerhouse and they have a 14 day return policy, so if I am not happy I will return it and buy a 42" 1024x1024 HD Fujitsu for an extra $1400.00 (Not from DSP).

*** Now to my Topic Title...Apologies for the preamble, but thought I'd give my 2 cents.

Has anyone noticed that the audio is out of sync with the video? I noticed it last night on all the channels. It was really annoying and not something I will put up with. Having done some "Googling" this morning, I could not identify whether it is a digital broadcast problem or whether it is the tuner problem.

One of my colleagues at work suggested that it could be because the tuner's audio is in analog and the video is in digital.

Your thought would be greatly appreciated.

Hit the nail right on the head - analog & digital are not synchronised, there is a time delay between them. Use either all analog or all digital to eliminate any sync issues

Aren't both the audio and video coming from the TV's internal Digital tuner? If so, they should be in synch.

If you have an Analogue TV running at the same time as a Digital TV, you will notice they are out by up to one to two seconds.

How would I do that? I've just plugged in the antenna cable straight into the digital pin (there is a analog one as well) turned the TV on, did the set-up and started watching.

GTJ I have noticed lip sinc on a few channels and never on DVD .I think it is with the station's IMO as a friend has a normal crt with no STB and still has lip-sinc , I think because the picture is bigger maybe we notice it more ??

You are already doing it all Digital.

So nothing I can do about it!!!

This topic has been around for a while. Last year a few people suggested a "reboot" may help - by temporarily unplugging the STB from the power socket.

I've noticed this also with the inbuilt SD tuner... Its not that bad though...

I normally pick up audio-sync problems right away, but it took me a while to notice this, and even then i really had to concentrate to notice the difference.

I'm leaning towards it being a broadcast issue rather than Acer tuner issue, since (for me atleast) it only seems to happen sometimes.

Surely if it was a broadcast issue we would all have this problem.

I used to often encounter out of synch broadcasting. It's rare these days. I guess they have improved what to do.

When i said broadcast i was actually thinking moreso like a reception issue... Maybe something is interfering with the signal after being broadcast & causing the audio sync issues...

Depending on where the interference came from it would only effect some people & not everyone...

ANywho... last night i noticed Neighbours (g/f was watching it) has slight lip-sync problems... But then an ad came on and it seemed to be fine... Weird... But yeh, it doesn't bother me unless i'm really concentrating & looking out for the audio sync...

Im surprised we dont have a definite answer for why this happens..unless whoever has the answer hasnt posted yet?

Ive noticed it during some Prime broadcasts....seems to go away by itself after a while

While we wait for the answer I consulted The Oracle and did some Scientific research and I must tell you I was pretty amazed by the results......

The Speed Of Light is = 299 792 458 m / s
The Speed Of Sound is = 340.29 m / s .....at sea level I might add (more about this later).

An average room is say......ummm 50 klms wide.

So lets see 1 divided by 299792458 is the time the image takes to travel 1 metre multiplied by 50000 metres is .......whoaaa thats fast blink.gif blink.gif
And 1 divided by 340.29 is the time it takes for the sound to be heard 1 metre away multiplied by 50000 metres is........whoaaa thats slow ohmy.gif ohmy.gif

So there you have it.......Lip Sync problems mathematically explained wink.gif

Of course Sound is affected by tempertures, air pressures and altitude so I would hazard a guess that the guys at Sea Level arent getting the same "issues"
...Solution.....
See if you can place your antenna closer to the beach and just run a very long co-ax up to where you live wink.gif

Hope this helps

I still occasionally notice broadcast/sync issues, but it seems to be a lot more rare these days (which is definitely a good thing! smile.gif )

Actually this is the speed of light through a vacuum.

It has recently been clocked at greater speeds in some laboratory experiments.

We also know that as the speed of a body increases, it's relative time slows to a point where it stands still at the speed of light.

So if TV programs could be broadcast at speeds greater than the speed of light, maybe we could watch next weeks programs today.
