Is the Sony HD set top box, Sony DSTHD500 any good? It does have a HDMI interface.
It has RRP of $699.

We have the Sony DST500. It came in a package deal with the Sony Bravia 32 inch V series LCD.
All I can say is that it is not without problems. It surprisedme to see how slow and awkward it is to change channels. But I have no experience with other DST boxes. Perhaps that is normal?
The box often shuts down or freezes up, resulting in no way to change channels. I think that the freeze up is due to the box being installed in a cabinet with little free air circulation. The manual calls for 100mm above and at each side. It works fine if I drag it out of the cabinet and let it cool off. To reset, I pull the PWR cord out, wait for about 30 secs or so and plug it back in.
We have had the DST500 for a little over a month and it worked fine initially. I will contact SONY for advice and a possible warranty claim.

I've had mine for a couple of months now, only problems I've had have been that the sound will occasionally drop out, and it's frozen on me twice. ALL of those problems seem to have occured when the channel I was watching has had bad reception and the box has had a problem dealing with the bad signal.
I find the picture quality great, and the channels change quick enough, the main thing I'd like to see added is an EPG, it has the i-Plate which shows now and next for the current channel, but I'd like to see an EPG added that shows what's on all the channels.

Had mine for 3 weeks now and no problem so far..... Did contact Sony service Centre and asked about the firmware upgrade that fixes the freezing issues on this box and they said that my serial number does fall within the range that may have the issue
Sony will only do the firmware update if the box does freeze up... so at this stage I wait and see how it goes.
PQ is great however

I picked mine up yesterday and straight off have hanging problems. I have foxtel running through the same cable from the aerial - turning foxtel off seems to make a bit of a difference to how long the box lasts before it hangs but it eventually hangs. I contacted Sony this morning and was advised to take the box back to the retailer for a replacement. Will do that this week and see how things go with a new one.
Have to add though the picture quality in HD when connected to a 32" V series Bravia is excellent. If I can get the box sorted out I will be very happy with my purchase.
