I just got my SH-DT510 delivered today, and have connected by HDMI via my Denon AVR-3806 to my Pio 506HD panel. I must say I am very impressed by the PQ that the STB delivers it is excellent!

I have noticed something weird though, I noted that when delivering sound via the HDMI connection the STB only delivers PCM audio, regardless of whether I select the Dolby audio output in an HD stream.

Not to let this get by me I hooked the optical output up to the Denon and set it to use the audio optical output instead of the HDMI audio, and got Dolby audio that way.

However I noted that audio level from the STB is way down on the level output by the HDMI output of the STB and by comparison to other optical inputs I use on the Denon (from my DVD player and DVD recorder). By way I'm talking in the order of 12 dB.

I tried another optical cable with the same result, and swapped the STB output to another optical input on the Denon with the same result.

Has anyone else had the same experience with the DT-510, or do I have a problem with mine?

PS has anyone else managed to get the 510's HDMI output to put out a Dolby Digital stream? (Might ring Pioneer about that on Monday actually).
