Hi Guys,
Check out the following interview from a USA based VP for Panasonic.
It covers 1080 resolution, gaming, burn in, LCD versus Plasma, SED etc.
It's an interesting read:

Great link. Very interesting!

It's good to hear some of this stuff directly from Panasonic.

Cheers,

Of course he's not speaking english as we know it but rather "Panasonic-Spin"...............

None-the-less it was a great read.

Seems he's put the issue of plasma burn-in firmly to bed.

I was also interested to see his take on SED technologies. He said that from what he knows and has seen they look as good as we are hoping they will be.

He did make the point that Panasonic can make 11 Million PDP screens a year and you just know he isn't going to turn the lights off and close his factory doors the day SED is first available.

I just loved his defence about the black level of plasmas how they are pretty darn good right now and that there are no "CRTs that are 42" diagonal, so it's kind of an apples to oranges comparison." How so very true !!

While he also wasn't a big fan of LCD, he did have some kind words for the new Sony Bravia series.

A good post, thanks for the info.

Actually, I thought he was pretty open and honest. Just three quick examples: He made it clear burn-in is possible (due to phospor technology being used) and he acknowledged the latency (lag) problem that affects gaming. He agreed that SED looked very good and had superior black levels and contrast ratio (it was reasonable to then go on and explain the commercial realities of production and manufacturing -- these things are true and none of us really know exactly what will happen with SED or any other new, unproven-in-the-market technology).

He says games will be the first place it turns up, highly doubtful, developers will have a hard enough time trying to get steady frame rates at 720p. Unless its an old school title like with xbox live arcade I doubt we'll see any 1080p titles between it's launch and years into his life.... not going to happen.

Very good read.

This guy confirms that they will not release a 1080P set under 46" as it DOES NOT benifit. 1080P for a set under 46" = hype plus money to manufactures as it does not improve picture quality.
