Having recently suffered a bit of a scare with the tennis logo, does anyone know what effect the Olympic logo might have while watching the olympics? will running a screen wiper during viewing help with any potential problems?......

I am very wary of static images since the incident with the tennis!

I would just watch it after all you are missing out on major events that look great on big screen plasma's. I thought the Olympic Presentation was Great ( meaning PQ). Would be quite annoyed not to watch it because of Burn in.

Well this logo is RED with white olympic rings.

I think bright-white logos are the worst (ie tennis), but I personally am still cautious - I was watching the olympics last night, and periodically changed the aspect ratio (when I could bne bothered) to move the logo around the screen.

I assume by screen-wiper, you mean that white vertical bar that traverses the screen periodically? I'd imagine this would definitely help... not sure how healthy this is for the life of the plasma in general, wiping a band of bright white pixels across the screen, but I think it should be fine

I watched the opening ceremony on Saturday morning for 3 hours.
During that period there were very little in the way of ad breaks and yes image retention with 7's olympic logo did cross my mind.
Im happy to say there was nothing retained on my HD 42 inch Panasonic Viera and that was run in dynamic mode with the brightness slightly tweaked lower.

Hi,

Got a LG 42px4dv plasma, watched all of the tennis, and now the olympics... haven't noticed any problems, no burn in or anything...

If anything does happen, i would expect the chanel to pay for the repair bill smile.gif

I hope thats a tongue in cheek comment because by the time the solictors get their slice you would be better off getting a 65incher than paying those sharks.

Hi Folks :-)

Burn in is just the result of uneven wear of the pixels. It is only worth "washing" your screen if you are already suffering burn in. If there is no burn in, it's best not to run the washer.

Running the washer just causes wear on all the pixels, and so makes the wear on the more worn pixels less by percentage. You can achieve the same result by just watching ordinary material without the same logo. It'll just take a bit longer.

Nothing lasts forever. Watch what you want to watch and try not to think about burn in. If you can't enjoy watching your plasma because of the fear of burn in, then it's already no good to you. It took me a couple of months to get over it, but I rarely think about it now, and I'm much happier because of that.

Incidentally; by the end of the year, how much time, by percentage, will the olympic logo have been on your screen?
