Hi All,
I have been reading a few posts here, and though I realiize its not a top of the range player I thought I would relate how I have found it.
It was given to me as a gift, though I had a hand in selecting it.
I got it Oct last year, I had been baby sitting an older version of the Sony player for about 12 months while a friend was over seas and was really happy with the way it performed.
My Tv is a 2 year old JVC 59cm with component input ( didnt see much point in buying anything any bigger at the time ).
As a bonus I was looking forward to experimenting with Divx, but was initially very disapointed as 99% of files I tried did not work, so I continued to convert them to DVD Vob to play. The only way I was able to play any Divx / Xvid files natively on the Player was to re-encode them using DrDivx.
Any way about a month ago I found a link on the divx community forum to a firmware update from Sony in Europe.

So I did the right thing and contacted Sony Australia to find out if this update was suitable for my unit.
Apart from an automated yes we got your message, No Response from Sony Australia was forthcomming.
I thought what the heck I'll give it a try.
Followed the instructions, and hey presto the frimware updated easily from 1.90 to 2.20, it now plays natively any file I have tried (so far ) including Xvid, even those that refused to be re-encoded via DrDivx. Aparrently it will also do subtitles as well.
As a result I'm very happy with my DVD player an thought I would pass on the info.
Regards
Mike
