Hi All,

I am currently running a SDSTB into a 37" AWA lcd tv. The TV is capable of 1080i, so I am feeling that I am wasting that capability by using the sd box. My budget is limited, but I would like to take the step up to a HD box as I have heard the difference is justified for the cost.

The Teac 820 seems to get a good wrap on the forum, has anyone plugged it into the AWA? It has a dvi-i connection, with the manual stating that the Analogue inputs have been disabled, so would it just be a case of buying a DVI-D to DVI-I cable? Any advice appreciated, if there are other models in the sub-$300 range I should consider, please let me know...

Thanks,

Sean

I have the 32" AWA LCD and run an LG LST 5100p via DVI while crunch box set on 720p (closest to screen native res).

You can probably get the LG for around $400 mark - good box no problems and gets good reviews.

Not sure if you can spend $400.

I do not know the Teac.

I have the Teac 820, but am running it via component into a Toshiba HD CRT. It's a great box, very stable compared to my Wintal PVRX-10. My Wintal tends to have audio dropouts that last 3-5 seconds (VERY annoying!) but the Teac, running off exactly the same antenna setup, is rock solid all the time. Awesome PQ, nice quick channel changes, nice looking interface, and a stylish looking mirror finish box to boot! The only gripe I have is the inability to delete channels from the channel list (you can only skip them) Not sure what the Teac's like via DVI, plenty of others seem to think it's fine (I think there were issues with the previous 800 model via DVI)

Cheers

I'm running a Hotchip ODT4000HD into my 32' AWA, DVI connection and I leave the box on 1808i output and let the TV do the scaling. Good clear picture and great sound through my home theatre. You can get the Hotchip for sub $300 these days (try JB Hi Fi and don't be afraid to haggle!).
