I am looking at upgrading to the LG LST-5100P High Definition Set Top Box and am wondering what people think of it? My main things are easy to use as i have 2 young kids and 1 wife. Also response time, I hate waiting for the channells to change and the kids will press every button to try to make it work. Also have been told I can pick it up for around $420 does this sound right? Thanks everyone

I have one and am generally very happy with it. It is very simple to use and the response time is pretty good. The only issue I have is that when I change the TV volume, the video drops out, returns, drops out again and then returns for good. This is a little disconcerting, but I am not sure if it is a problem with the unit generally, or simply a fault with mine. The price quoted sounds about right.

I also have the 5100 that I connect to a Pioneer 436HD using HDMI. I have not had any other STB, but have had Foxtel digital since it was available.
I rate the STB pretty highly. Set up is a breeze with its channel auto search. They are as simple to use as any old TV. It helps to know the HD channels. 12 for Ten, 30 for SBS, 20, 70, 90 should be self explanatory.
Channel change is about 1-3secs.
The high definition channels, even when not showing HD material (must be the upscaling and HDMI connection) look brillant, better than Foxtel.
You need pretty good signal through the aerial to avoid dropouts like that described above. Make sure the aerial cabling is high quality and kept away (as best you can) from other electrical wires. We have sound drop out when we turn on/off fluro lights in the room for example.
$420 seems a reasonable buy, I got mine for $440 before Christmas.
If you are looking for ease of use though, consider a universal remote. I have a Harmony 880. Its OK, not strong on quality, but a reasonably priced unit nevertheless. You have to be a little bit computer savvy to navigate the website to set it up. Once done, just one button push turns on all the devices you want for an activity, adjusts the inputs and off you go.

I bought one as well before christmas for about $450. Good unit and generally pretty happy with it. Same sound issue drop out momentarily when adjusting volume on the STB.
All round pretty good unit. You won't be disappointed.
