I bought this Kaon KTF620 set top box for $290 had it set up for only a few days and it died. I was verry happy with picture quality menu ect... I have now been given the option to get another Kaon or to upgrade to the LG HD box (sorry no model #) but it is the new one for $420. Not having any experience with any other set top box i'm just wondering if anyone has any feed back for me. Thanks heaps Casp

Just one thing that I know of because coincidentally I have a Kaon HD (not sure if it's the one you're talking about and I can't be bothered right now to find out hehe but the price sounds the same, got it from Harvey) presently and 'upgraded' to an LG but took the LG back only because it didn't have the feature in the menu to allow me to set up "timer" channels to set up with my dvd timer recording settings so that u don't have to leave your stb on and on the channel if you are going away whilst u set up a recording. (a pretty useful feature! that even all the cheap sd stb's have), if u do timer recording... so i was disappointed with the lg for that b/c i assumed that it would , otherwise if your not interested in that .. You could assume that the lg would be at least of equal quality, most probably better afterall the one im talking about still had the DvI out like the Kaon.
Does the answer your q?

by the way i have had problems with my kaon though freezing if i quickly change the channel like 10 times succesfully resulting in me having to powering it off and down to resume watching tv. Doesn't do it so much now ive programmed a macro function on my remote to turn off when i switch to dvd or something cos i use to leave it on 24/7 but yeah a let down for the kaon if you watch tv when your bored ... check 7, check 9, check 1, check 2, check 3, check 21, look at 70 again etc .....heh

thanks for that sounds like the same STB. I'll give it another go when JB get one in for me. Am stuck with a Hot chip at the moment. One thing, was there any pictuer quality difference and how was the response time of the LG? I'm pretty happy with how fast the Kaon can change channels. Thanks again

Classic retail trick these days: sell you something cheap that doesn't work and con you into buying something more expensive to replace it. This places you in a bad bargaining position.
You should get your money back then negotiate for the LG.

Also $420 is too much for the LG. You should pay $400 at the very most. Even at $400 I consider the LG poor value.

I have heard from users that the LG is a good box, with stable firmware and great PQ... I looked at one the other day, and it has a bloody switch on the back for which output setting you would like to use. This would really annoy me when i wanted to swap between VGA on HD, and component on SD... at least you can change the resolutions from the remote. Why would you pay $450 for this when you can get the Teac cheaper... which does have this on the remote. Unfortunatley, even though the website says it has one, the Teac 820 doesn't seem to have the VGA port anymore.
