To display High Def at 1024x768, do you require a HDMI or DVI connection? Or is a component cable sufficient to display this resolution?

Having said this, a DVD max resolution is 720x480 and by all reports Foxtel Digital rarely send High Def programs, so is there any point in using HDMI or DVI unless you were wanting to connect a PC to obtain higher resolutions?

HD can be carried on VGA and component, as well as over digital connections.

Broadcast HD is actually interlaced 1920x1080 or 1440x1080.

DVD resolution in the "PAL-style format" is actually 720*576 ... the 480 is NTSC (American).

Foxtel has never had HD.
