I have:

LCD TV - Samsung 32 Inch LA32R51B
STB - Samsung DTB-H550F

The two work fine when the STB is set to 576p. But when i switch the stb (via a switch at the back of the stb) to a higher resolution (eg 720i or 1080i) the info bar that appears each time you change channel no longer pops up. The info bar (if that's not the technical name) is the thing that says what you are watching, how long it goes for and can also give additional description about the program.

Is there a way to fix this?

I suggest you have a read of the notes at the bottom of Page 17 of the manual. Note 2 says that with 1080i, 720p, or 576p selected the OSD will not be supported on Composite Video or S Video. Does this help.

I'm afraid this will not help him as ED/HD resolutions are not supported via a S-Video or Composite connection, only via Component (YPbPr), VGA, DVI, and HDMI.

When it is changed, is the whole picture displayed exactly as with 576p, i.e. nothing cut off from the top/bottom sides? If this is the case, it's possible you may need to adjust the vertical and horizontal settings when changing to these modes. Otherwise I'm a bit stumped rolleyes.gif What connection are you using for the STb to panel?

Hi jsmith,

But that's my point. Inferno doesn't say what output is being used, so if say composite is being used and the stb is switched to a HD/ED output, wouldn't that give this effect?

No,

He says that 576p works fine... no 576p over composite, only SD 576i.

Good point. I also note that he refers to 720i though!!

Inferno? Are you out there? This thread is kinda stuck until we hear from you........

Hi all. At the moment I'm just using composite cables. I thought the problem still happened when i used component, but maybe i was wrong.

Only using composite at the moment as still messing around with the various cable options trying to ensure my dvd recorder records the stb signal. (See here)
PEEBS
Using composite there is no point turning up the resolution as it only delivers 576i through composite and svideo so there will be no difference.

Is there a limit to what component can show?

Still curious to know the solution.

Are you sure you're not mixing up the connection types?

Composite is a single, usually yellow, RCA cable. Comes with just about ever hi-fi equipment you buy from a retail store. The maximum resolution that you can send over a Composite cable is 576i.

Component has three cables, one Green, one Blue and one Red. These signify the Y-Pb-Pr cables, respectively. The maximum resolution you can send over Component is 1080p.

Another type of Component uses the same colour cables, but instead has Y-Cb-Cr on the label. This is limited to SD resolutions, or 576i.
