Full Version: Sound Cutouts (and video glitch)

Hey guys, I'm new to digital so go easy tongue.gif

I have a LG LST-5100P STB with a LG Lafinion 82W TV. When watching Channel 7 or 9, I get sound cutouts for about 1 second every so often. A video glitch also occurs when the sound cuts out. I am getting about 95% signal on channel 7 and 75% signal on channel 9. Also I get a big message when viewing Channel 10 saying "NO SIGNAL" or sometimes image is displayed but constant glitch after glitch, and when looking at the signal bar it is about 40% of a light bar and then after the light bar is a darker bar which is at about 60%.

So I need to know, how do I fix the problem? I'm in sort of a 'ditch' in Murray Bridge SA (I hardly get phone singal on AAPT).

Thanks guys
PEEBS
It sounds like a reception problem, I has similar problems with SBS until I got a new antenna. You could try posting in your geographical area forum. Someone may have had similar problems and be able to recommend a good antenna for your area.

Yeah I do think its a reception problem because even on analog TV the reception is quite fuzzy on all the channels. Cheers

I bought my first STB a few months ago, Strong STR5006. Having the same type of problem.

Mine is caused by electrical interferance from within in my house - lights being turned on or off, etc. The higher the voltage being used by the appliance, the worse the audio/video glitch. Disherwasher really scares me as it goes through it's cycles.

Wondering if there's a filter I can install to stop it.

The higher the voltage being used by the appliance
If it is something that plugs into the power socket/outlet, they will all use the voltage that is coming out of the house wiring, usually 240 V AC.
Some devices do indeed draw 'higher' current as they operate, this could make a more noticeable impulse.

You are very likely suffering from a poor quality, low level signal, and the impulses/interference when it comes along is swamping your useable signal with errors.

Where are you? Try your local region in the forum.

Sorry for the bump, but i'm getting very similar problems to sk1p, I get regular picture glitches and audio dropouts, but I'm not sure if my problems are also due to geographical location. The problems seem to persist in all the video modes i've tried so far(Using composite right now)

My equipment:

LCD TV: Magnavox MLCD32
HD STB: LG LST-5100P
Tevion 7.1 Amplifier - audio and video go through this then the TV, but the problems started before I installed it.

When I check the signal, the bar is usually a bit over 50% most of the time on all channels.

I live in Surry Hills, Sydney, near the city. My TV manual said passing cars could cause interference, and I do actually live right on a busy intersection...

sk1p,
Your problem is insufficient antenna signal strength or poor quality signal. Forget about filters at this stage you need to increase the signal levels.

Go to the Geographic Viewers’ Forum, which is near the bottom of the main forum’s home page. Select your region and read the pinned post “Get the Best Reception”. Please post any further correspondence in this strand for all in your region to see. I will see it anyway. You could also search your location in that strand for others in your area.

That is really very low...
How does the signal get to your STB? Outside antenna, old cabling?
