I have the following hardware with the following capabilities (copied from manuals) and wish to know WHY :

A ) When I hook my DVD player up to the TV via component cable I cannot get a progressive scan image?
B ) WHY the Sony DVD player states it supports only TVs with 525p/625p?

Cable: Neotech Super Component Cable : Quality Cable 1.5m

TV: LG Lafinion 70W Widescreen 16x9 HD ready 100hz, with the following component inputs:

Component 1: (Y Cb Cr, Y Pb Pr or YB- Y R-Y)

50hz : 576i, 576p
60hz : 480i, 480p, 1080i

Component 2: (Y Pb Pr)

50hz : 576p
60hz : 480p, 1080i

DVD player: Sony DVP-NS575P Progressive Scan DVD Player with the following component input:

Component Input Jack (Y, Pb/Cb, Pr/Cr)

Manual States IF your TV accepts 525p/625p THEN progressive scan will work. IS there such a thing as 525p or 625p????

Results:

Component 1: Full color perfect component image, NO PROGRESSIVE SCAN. DVD player will not allow me to access progressive scan option to turn progressive to auto or video. TV, no progressive scan indicator lights up.

Component 2: COmplete mess, image appears zoomed in and moving everywhere deformed. Same as above in regards to player and tv status.

WHAT do I need to do? New DVD player? New TV?

Does the remote on your DVD player allow you to choose Progressive Scan on a Setup Menu eg the same way you would have selected the output for whether your TV is 4:3 or 16:9?

If it does, set up progressive scan when your via your DVD remote setup while it is connected to your TV standard Yellow video input and then the picture should go skewif and then plug in RGB and see what occurs.

However I would check with your manual what on your DVD remote codes reset but to standard video via your remote control as you will no longer be able to see the menu on the Yellow RCA plug once you select progressive scan.

Good luck
