Im wondering if its worth asking for a better deal on an AWA 81cm LCD, they have them supposedly marked down to about $1550 or so right now, can I ask for another $100 or do they not move on price like JB etc? Also who do you ask? Usually the person I get served by in these type stores seems like a very junior staff member....

Only way to find out for sure is go and try yourself.......
chargin8
Well thanks for that, never thought to do that...

hmmm

I was wondering if others have had any success, the only way I could find THAT out was by asking.
Ingram
I had complete sucess getting 100 bucks off the price of my AWA 81CM TV.

...

...

Because I had a staff discount card tongue.gif

But maybe the salesmen will be willing to give you the same discount. They have the means to.

Sorry chargin, my post wasn't meant to be sarcastic, apologies if it came out that way.

In a lot of cases this sort of thing is dependant on the individual store and staff within that store, as opposed to any overall official "chain management" policy, that's why I suggested that you try for yourself at the particular branch of the store that you are interested in.

BigW do not give negotiated discounts. WYSIWYG

It's not an electronics store where the rep gets a commission for a sale.

You don't expect to negotiate $5 for that piece of underwear now do you .... the same principles apply whether it is a packet of chips or a $2000 television.

Hi
Big W Tweed Heads wouldn't budge off the ticketed price of $838 for a Sanyo 51cm LCD i purchased last week, told them i only had $800 to spend but no dice.
It never hurts to ask though, you never know...

You pay cash = You ask for discount. Its a universal language.

You will find alot of places won't give cash refunds.

i purchased one for fathers day back in sept and i was able to get $30 off the ticketed price as they had the wrong model on display [the newer ones were still out the back], they wanted to keep flogging the older model with 2 years warranty. so i was able to get 3 years [new warranty being offered] with the new model.

i see they have now dropped under $1420 @Big-W; AWA 81cm LCD and still impressed with it. i think its great value.

Big W do not give discounts - I work there - all prices are set by head office - we get no control over prices. Oh and BigW dont give discounts for cash cause they dont charge you extra for non-chash sales.

Can you get to the navigation page for that catalogue? For me at least, it seems Big W has removed the link to current catalogues from their main page.

Try this link, although you can still get to it from the main Big W page. It's the button called 'this week's advertising.

To get a price discount you normally have to talk to a staff member.
Big W doesnt have any, only checkout chicks who cant make those decisions.
Whether they created this on purposes ( I doubt it) or it was another benefit in cost cutting ( more than likely) it seems to have worked in their favour.
Every store has a manager (hidden) behind two way glass. I would confront him/her for a discount.Usually these people are approachable and you never know if you dont ask nicely.

Thanks. The "This weeks advertising" button isn't there for me. Just a blank space where the button should be.

BTW the 37" is also on special at $2227 apparently.

already finished as of yesterday...

I thought they had a price matching policy though. I tried it once on something like a vacuum cleaner - you take in the catalogue or advertisement, they will ring the store & if it's the exact same product - I mean exact same model number & everything they will match the price (or beat it?).

Do you mean the 37" special? because the 32" is on special until next wednesday.

The store manager cannot give discounts on stock unless its ex-display or clearance stock.

BigW will match the price - the policy is that the other store must have stock of the item and it must be the exact same item. Also BigW dont match percentage off sales (eg KMART 15% off sale).

my apologies I was looking at the old catalogue ie baby one, not the one with the 81cm on special which goes till next Wed.

Not charging extra is the exact reason why a store might give you a discount for paying cash. wacko.gif

If they did charge extra for non-cash purchases you would hope that the discount is already built into the prices.

Well it was supposed to say alot of stores these days dont do cash discounts. But alot of stores dont do cash refunds now to try and stop fraud. Eg. if i paid by my savings (eftpos) card and wanted a refund on something, usually they will credit it back to that account. The only time you'll get a cash refund is if you paid cash in the first place

The 32'' has a price Roll Back tag on it.

So im asuming that $1418 is the new price of this.

I guess its been out a year so a $300 drop is not too bad..

Thats my point - most places already have the charges for such sales built in to their cost (at least thats what I tell customers who ask - It usually ends the discussion tongue.gif ).

(I suppose to some degree BigW does to as it is part of the stores over-heads but at the end of the day they dont care how you pay - the price is there, take it or leave it.)

I tried to buy a 81cm AWA LCD from Burleigh Heads Big W today. No go. They said they didn't give rainchecks and if they got any more stock in they may call me. Wasted a couple hours on the round trip. mad.gif

Got back and called head office to discuss their advertising and stocking policies. Burleigh then maggically found 3 units and is getting them transferred from another store, one of which has my name on it.

I don't know if it adds much to the previous discussion but I know Myers will match other store's pricing.

Secondly, in stores where commissions do matter, I've heard it said that shopping at the end of the month is often a good idea because salesmen have quotas they are trying to fill.
