Hi,

I have recently purchased the Samsung HD 42" Plasma along with the Sony DSTHD500 and HDMI cable. Within a day of using the STB it started to freeze. The freezing is not consitent with any 1 channel. I took the STB back to the retailer who replaced it however my new box is doing the same thing.

The retailer did a fault check on the original box and it came back negative. They seem to think I could be getting too much signal strength to the box and it is freezing and has now gone into a safe type of mode becuase of this. I am not confident it is related to the signal strength becuase when I plug the arial directly into the Plasma the reception is poor.

If anyone has experienced something similar or has any suggestions I would loved to hear them.

The Sony is probably one of the worst set top boxes on the market.

Return it and get something decent such as Ausid or Teac

I bought the sony DSTHD500 at the begining of November. After playing it for about 2hours, the tv lost picture and sound, nothing is working I had to unplugged the power. I happened 3 times in 3 days. Returned the unit to where I bought it from and got a replacement unit. Again the same problem occurred I had to get my money back. Now I am looking for another HD STB with an HDMI but have not found any yet. heard that Pioneer will release a new HD STB with HDMI later in the year. Will see.

I really don't get what Sony did to their newer STBs.. the DSTHD100 was, IMO, perfect.
