If you are crazy or desperate enough to buy a Toshiba HDD-J35, do not throw out the box.

You will need it for the trip to Castel for upgrades / bugfixes.

If you do not have the original box, Castel will note that the unit is not in the original box and claim that if the unit fails to work on return the packaging is at fault.

How do I know?

I just had my J35 returned from getting V71 upgrade and a host of problems fixed and dispite being packaged in a similar box (DVD) and supported with foam ends and bubblewrap, Castel noted on my repair form: in wrong boxpackaging easy to get damaged.

Bulldust Castel! My packing was better than the original.

All Castel did to respond to 3 pages of faults was to slap on V71.

Shoddy!

I had to ring continually to find out what was happening. I asked them to call me when the unit was fixed. No we do not was the reply. We just send it back.

Castel Service is an oxymoron.

Buyer beware. Crappy product with crappy support.

One more fault and it's back for a refund!

Class action anyone to sue Castel for selling such a heap of SH!T?

I had thrown out my box and sent it of in a Sony DVD box, bubble-wrap, foam packing, the whole works..........

The courier lost it in transit to Castel, so Castel sent me another unit, I was pretty happy with that !! As an aside, the courier finally delivered it to Castel a day or so after I got the new one.

But how is it working with V71 ??

Welcome to the WONDERFUL world of Toshiba! My second J35, with the V71 software can't keep time on standby, which makes a mockery of the timer recording function. Toshiba (Castel's) answer to the problem?, well, "nothing can be done about that"! My J35 is going back fairly soon, for a FULL refund. This is the BIGGEST piece of crap I have ever seen for around $1500.00. If this is what we have to put up with for HD PVR's then I'll wait, for something decent to come along. If it takes a while then who cares. I resent paying good money for garbage. The J35 makes a PERFECT......... boat anchor (in a VERY slow flowing tide). Give me Pioneer or Panasonic equipment anyday! Castel don't seem to care to much. To quote Castel, "we're ONLY distributors". Really?,,, well, distribute this!

My two are 100% perfect.

I did ring Castel first and explained the missing box situation. I was told it was OK to use another as long as it was well protected and nothing moved if the box was shaken. No offer of a new box. Then they use your box to cover against any transit damage claims. Nice!

Thankfully it does work after return, but not off to a good start.

The writting is now black, the EPG seems better (still crap though) and the PVR button is working again (hooray!).

Bad news! within a few hours of return the audio was lost again and the box rebooted itself.

I'll be putting up with this until the LG is available and it's back to HN for a refund and new LG.
