Hi all,

Just looking for your advice in a situation that a friend of mine is in, I haven't come across the problem before. He's got a SD-only TV that has some RGB-capable SCART inputs, and wants to connect a HD-STB to it (obviously only outputting 576i, but so he can receive the HD-only broadcasts and such).

Now, it seems that there aren't any HD-STBs with RGB-capable SCART outputs, but many of them have VGA/D-sub monitor connectors (which, I assume, would output RGBHV). However, I'm guessing that RGBHV and RGB (3 wires) are quite closely linked, and may even be able to be converted with a cable, rather than an active converter.

Does anyone know how to do this? Basically, I just need a way to go from the RGBHV output to RGB (either 3x RCA or a SCART output). Alternatively, there may be a HD STB that is actually capable of outputting RGB over its Dsub output via a menu or something.

Any advice would be great!

Thanks,

Are you sure the STB outputs 576i over VGA ... you may find the lowest output over VGA is actually 576p.
If the TV & STB have s-video, that would probably be the best option, unless its a huge TV.
Some HDSTBs can output RGsB, but I think that's over RCA-style connections usually used for component video.
