Transmission isn't that selective laugh.gif
If the same problems appear on the same ads, it must be a fault in the "dub" or copy of that commercial.

Another explanation is a problem with the playout server for your area (which you didn't mention). You also didn't mention which networks are affected.

dub = copy

It is usually a copy of the master tape that gets sent out to all the transmitters.

A transmitter is a place where all the channels in your area get sent out from, that travel via radio waves. Your antenna will usually point to the closest transmitter, if the antenna is directional.

A master tape is the original tape, the "mother goose" if you will.

A mother goose is.. nah just kidding...

elcee,
What brand and model of STB is it? Does it also do it during programs which contain large areas of white in the picture?

I am NOT a tv engineer/technician smile.gif , but could it be that the transmission sync pulses are disrupted when switching from one ad to another, depending perhaps on the source of the material? And this momentary loss of sync is causing the stb some grief?

If there's anything in this, different stb's and/or tv's may be more tolerant than others with regard to a choppy sync pulse.
alanh
rah,
The problem is that the video signals in the STB are passed through a capacitor which removes the DC. This means that the average voltage of the signal rises as the area of white increases. This makes the sync pulses positive instead of negative voltage. Now the TV cannot find the sync pulses.

What should be in the STB is another transistor which shorts the video to a negative voltage at the start of each line. Now it does not matter what the picture content is.

She said that the problem occurs in programs with large areas of light colours. Advertisments usually use lots of white to attract your attention.
