I have just recently purchased a LG LST-5100P High Def STB and having some trouble with reception. I Have installed a new antenna, upgraded the whole TV Network ( to F-type connection, reduced the splitter down to a 3-way and made the STB in question the shortest run, approx 8m, all in RG6 quad shield), this improved reception and i am able to get good reception during the day, but at night all reception seems to drop out with an exeption for channel 7. I also have a nextwave STB installed and it has no problems with reception (approx 20m cable run). could someone please give me some reasons as to why this would be happening?

Have you had the antenna adjusted for optimum reception by a technician? This may help...

I've been experiencing a similar thing. I've even used a signal amplifier to boost the signal. The area I'm in has poor reception but I'm able to recieve all stations on my PCs digital tuner card and my old cheap wintal box. I will probably return it and exchange it for a Strong which apparantly is one of the best HD boxes on the market.

This problem of inconsistent stb performance & reception problems keep coming up...the DBA have done a terrible job in setting standards & doing consumer tests.

I couldn't agree more. Information on STB sensitivity would be highly useful for consumers. I live in a poor reception area so STB sensitivity would be the major factor in my purchase. I can only hope that by upgrading to the strong with its good reputation that my problems will be solved.

Hi. We've had an LST-5100P for 2 months now and find it's very good. We're in Amaroo, on the northern edge of Canberra and currently run the unit on rabbits ears (we only bought the house a few months ago and haven't yet installed an external antenna). The only issue with the unit is a tendancy to pixelate (drop sognal) when a light switch is turned on or the lounge room gas heater's fan switches in.

Perhaps we're lucky. We originally bought a DGTEC DH2000A but returned to the retailer within a week and paid a bit extra for the LG - the DGTEC was very poor.

Just thought I'd releate our experience. Good luck solving your issue.

I get exactly the same problem with that box. A few audio dropouts every minute. I think in my case, at night my parents switch on there STB and were on a shared antenna cable. I was thinking thats the problem.

Maybe it's not. Maybe this box is crap.

after using the stb for a little longer now the time of day doesnt seem to be the problem but rather the length of time the stb has been on, it seems that at approx. 1.5hr mark of use the box will drop all signal. Has anyone else had similar problems with a similar model? Thank all for your help so far

the reason that it "pixelates" is just the fact of interferance from Hard switching and perhaps and old fan motor in your heater, this is only magnified by the fact that you are using rabbit ears, when you do get a proper antenna installed you will find that it happens less frequency for the reason that the cable used will probably be quad shield and will protect your reception a alot better.

My problem has been solved. The tuner was flaky and would not hold even very strong signals for long. I took it back and had the unit swapped over for a new one and now I no longer need an signal amplifier to be able to display a good picture.

Maybe you could give that a try.
