Full Version: Are antenna installers coping with DTV
DTV Forum Australia - Australia's Leading Digital TV and AV Forum > Geographical Viewers Forums > Queensland > Gold Coast Viewers Forum

There have been several people asking for recommendations for antenna installers on the Gold Coast with a surprising absence of replies.

Are antenna installers experiencing difficulty with digital installations, repeat visits etc and are thus reluctant to perform this work?

Are antenna installers having trouble keeping up with the increased work load?

Is there some reluctance for some antenna installers to acquire the necessary equipment for confirming reliable digital installations?

Do they just not bother with this forum?

Maybe in this DIY world, more people install their own antennas, I did.

Well, I have done installs in VIC, SA & NSW from enquiries from forum members.
Haven't made it to QLD yet huh.gif

I can't speak for other installers, however I am extremely busy.
There are a number of installers in the forum, perhaps it's just there are none among us based in the Gold Coast area.

If you are in a good signal area, DIY is worth a shot. In other areas, you really need the specialist equipment and "know how to use it" together with a sound knowledge of RF transmission & reception principals. This is where many installers fall down. Unfortunately, there are some large franchises who give their installers a "crash-course" on antenna installation and expect them to perform wonders.

There is no substitute for knowledge, experience and the right tools for the job.

I can't comment for Gold Coast either but in the last 12 months have attended 2 trade shows where around 75 installers turned up to here and see talks and equipment relevant to digital Tv in Northern NSW
Around 60 of these guys would have been over 55years old
There appeared to be much glazed looks of confusion as Digital system was explained
Many guys were not intersted in buying meters and seemed content to continue doing Analog installs until they retired seeing digital as a minority part of work.(this may be due in part to the slow rollout in this area and general reluctance of the public to takeup with so few channels available)
Many were electricians and appeared to have very limited concepts of RF and asked of pass /fail values for installations .

Regarding the Forum,I suspect many do occassionally read it lurking about but not coming forth. If they can learn then this is good.As with all trades ,those who excell usually have a passion for it.Those who can be bothered reseaching their work after 5.00pm must do better than those who only see their work as a means of income
