I have a analog tv and an SD box. If a show has 5.1 sound on the HD channel, I can listen to it, but not see it on an SD box.
If I get a 2nd SD box and watch say channel 9 on the tv, whilst listening to channel 90 for the 5.1 on the other box will the sound be in sync??
My guess is yes, but i"d like to know for sure
over to you all...

I have SD and HD boxes and they are often out of sync , may not be always that way, can't see I have particularly tried it on purpose, but I have certainly noticed it if HD is on in one room and SD in another and you can hear the delay, it was out enough for it to be annoying. This may even vary depending on the boxes though.

The last time I checked, 7 broadcast their SD before HD, Nine and Ten broadcast their HD before SD, metropolitan channels are broadcast before regoinals (in overlapping areas) and analogue is broadcast before digital.
Question is, why don't you just plug in, watch and listen to HD and not bother with SD for 5.1 broadcasts?

Truth is... I've had my eye on Toshiba's HD PVR for future purchase, but I'm heading for the more reliable Topfield SD one....or do they have an HD version on the way, and if so when???

They do have a HD version on the way, but it's very unlikely they'll come anytime soon... when people talk about future Toppy products, the word "vapourware" usually comes to mind
