Samsung's new 42 inch HD plasma, PS42S5, has now hit the stores.

The Samsung website is hopeless and doesn't have any info on the PS42S5. I rang their customer support and eventually got onto someone who was not particularly well informed on their products. Anyway, she said that this model is a HD panel and now comes with their HD STB for RRP of $4999. I guess to compete with the LG 42PX4DV which has an inbuilt HD tuner.

The Samsung has 2 years warranty on both the plasma and STB which is better than the LG. I am leaning towards the Samsung.

What's the best price that people have found (and where?) for the Samsung. Any problems with the Samsung?

I bought this unit 2 weeks ago for $3950 from Bing Lee at Alexandria.

Great screen.

This is the sexy black unit right? Well the case won me big time but in my travels I kept finding the PQ was lacking. I found a Myer (Maquarie centre ryde) that seemed to have taken the time to set up all their screens a bit better than most, and I thought it lacked blacks somewhat. The SD version looked awesome next to it.

Its a bit of a shame as I would prob consider this model if it blew me away.

Unless one of you guys comes back after a calibration and says its stunning (with a few piccys), id be much more inclined to suggest ppl go to that Myer (or similar) and compare with the SD version

I've seen the Samsung HD connected via dvi to a Samsung HD STB and the picture was (I thought) stunning.

How do you go about calibrating a screen anyways?
