I read about this in T3, and along with a full new range of LG HD products, a LG LCoS TV!

This should be good, wonder if its another Humax made product?

I posted a bit on this one back in the dgtec PVR thread, might be of interest. The best part was that its made by humax - not sure on the truth on that one though, you can never trust a salesman.

I saw this box out there - does look a pretty solid piece of work. Does worry me though what lurks under there under its smart looking demeanour.

Interestingly talking to the sales guy about it. He said he'd been talking to the LG sales rep who said they had a new LG HDPVR that should be out in a month or so. The sales guy strongly suggested that would be better option worth waiting for. He thought the LG was a Humax effort. Which is probably a good thing as theve been making pvr's for a while now so should hopefully get it right without too many cock ups.

hell if nothing else it might get topfield off its lazy ass and get something reasonable out there.
Groover !
If its made by Humax and not LG then I might just be the first in line to get one.

Now, now Angelo. Look at the one made for Toshiba and all the problems it is having. It couldn't possibly be any worse!

Glenn & Angelo have been outed as brand snobs.

mellow.gif ooops, I've just realised that I've never owned a Samsung or LG product either.... ohmy.gif

Saw one on the week-end operating with a 42inch? LG LCD. It was running a recording of an african wild-life park. The picture was absolutely stunning. Couldn't extract any relevant details from the Bing Lee man cause it was not for sale.

not that theres anything wrong with that.

how is it possible to have two concurrent LG bashing threads going on in different parts of the forum !

I can appreciate this view point as I have gone throught this when I purchased the Onkyo Flagship Receiver TX-DS939 and said never again. Thankfully there was/is a lot of choice in the Receivers/AV-Amp market here in Australia.

As for HD PVR's you are currently limited to Toshiba so I welcome LG releasing their effort and hopefully others releasing theirs to so we have more to choose from IMO.

Look Guys (LG), don't bash LG. They never lied that Life's Good. I owned one except that there is a secret you need to know for it to make your life good. Just DON'T turn it on... laugh.gif

Cheers.

I think both LG and Samsung have come a long way, look at what the early Japanese cars and products were like. Remember Goldstar? haven't got much to lose with Toshiba the only other HD PVR on offer. I drove a new Hyundai Sonata yesterday and amazed at the price, for 35 grand for the V6 Elite leaves a Commodore for dead, has a five year warranty...

February and i'm still waiting.

PS, LG is Goldstar
physwizz
Someone said it was coming before the end of February. I only hope they've been reading the forum info on the Toshiba stuffup HD pvr. smile.gif

LG = Lucky Chemical Company and Goldstar , there and hence the name...

I must admit, they have some innovative products and ideas, problem is they do not stand behind their product very well. I bought an L1750SQ 8ms LCD Monitor for my PC, had a stuck on blue pixel the day i got it home, the PC shop wouldn't exchange it, neither would LG. Log a complaint with Dept of Fair Trading, shop was advised they were required to exchange it, he wouldnt do it unless LG gave him a reimbursement or replacement, LG wouldnt, unfortunately for me, I couldnt be stuffed taking it to the Tribunal as advised by Dept of Fair Trading.

On the flip side of the coin, I was extremely hesitant but when I was looking for a Plasma TV, missus chopped my budget short from the original $$$ with HD model to a Std Def model... sad.gif , looking around for a std def model and the only one i was extremely impressed with was the LG 10000:1 contrast model that had only just come out. On getting JB Hi Fi to swear black and blue that if i got it home and it had dead pixels they would immediately exchange it, fortunately, all was sweet and touch wood never had an issue to date, which had been about 10 months now, although I also bought an extended JB warranty to 5 years in total..... hopefully i never have to use it.

Hey,

LG have actually improved. I am extremely happy with the LG5100 STB.

My dad just bought the LG 7796 DVD Recorder with HDD, and it works great. Plays all of his DVD's, even the overseas ones (Toshiba would spit the dummy every time with those).

As for the ETA, I have been told March. And Topfield shortly after in May.

I know I know. "Whatever".

Todays junk mail in Brisbane has the latest Clive Anthony's catalogue. Show the 160gb unit for $999 and the 250gb unit for $1299.
Note Clive Anthony's regularly put stuff in there catalogues they don't have and can't get.

This is indeed interesting.

I have noticed a seismic shift in 'brand' consciousness. In consumer land (so ignoring Lowe, B&O etc) Sony and Panasonic used to rule, today I am watching people gobble up LG, Technics, Toshiba and other gear. And to be honest, with automated (robotic) manufacturing, common component sourcing (like screens) etc, there really isn't much difference nowadays other than industrial design. I used to only buy Sony TVs...now I have a LG 81 cm LCD (with built in HD tuner tongue.gif) and a Supernet 8000T PVR...and I just don't care, the LG image quality is superb, better than the Sonys bravia it was next to.

I emailed Topfield and specifically asked about the 7000 (HD version) and the reply was mid this year.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!! I am waiting to buy one...

Got an email from their product manager - the LG HD recorder is undergoing final testing and will be creleased in early March. I can wait that long. Trouble is, 'final testing' can expose a lot of problems. I'm sure they will have learnt from the Toshiba experience.

There was a full page ad for LG's HD recorder in the Financial Review's glossy magazine today. It cannot be far off.
