Trying to decide between the fujitsu P42HHA40WS and Pioneer PDP-435D HD Panels (Both 42"). In Perth I can get both for around $6000. Both seem like nice panels however the Pioneer has a seperate box for conecting components and the Fujitsu would have components plugged directly into panel. Is the AVM2 chip in the Fujitsu better than what the Pioneer has to offer ? Was also told the NEC XM3W is a better panel - Confused !

Opinions and advice appreciated ??

My personal view (based on Component setup) was that the NEC was as good as the Fujitsu 42. I found the black gloss bezel of the Pioneer very distracting. (Original post (here))

The Fujitsu 50" was significantly better than the 42 Fujtsu, and the blacks on the 50" were significantly better than the NEC 50 or 42. (remember the 42 Fujitsu is an Alis 1024*1024 panel ? hitachi glass?? and the Fujitsu 50" is a panasonic glass)

Overall - from a cost/quality point of view the NEC 42 HD panel at $4500-4700 is a very good buy (3 year warranty, stand or wall mount, good quality screen, DVI is HDMI compatible).

You really need to see the screens yourself side by side if you can to come to your own opinion. Different people will come to quite different decisions on these panels.

Interesting point about the glass on the panels. Would have assumed the 42" Fuji was similar to the 50" Fuji. I suppose I shouldnt assume anything ! I agree about the black bezel though

I find the Pioneer media centre does a good job in converting all the inputs to hdmi .I think it does the upscaling as well for the vcr & dvd.The resulting PQ from a proper TV HD source thru say 90 or 12 is as good as i saw in my side by side comparisons.Anything done in HD from production to transmission is superb. But there is so much low quality stuff on tv that i can understand why it is hard to get a good chance to do the side by side comparisons.

tv is only worth watching after 8.30pm.

I have the commercial 50"pio and HD transmissions are as you would expect, excellent. Clear clean lines, no digital noise, no solarisation and dithering (actually i think i've seen some twice in the last 4 weeks :-))

Ofcourse, how people review there own plasmas varies a lot. You'll find some will give you honest answers and information and others (most) will not say anything negative. So either the 50" fuji's are the best thing since sliced bread or the current owners just aren't giving a balanced perspective. Hey, i'm sure there are very good panels fellas ;-). No harm mean't

Glenn,

Just spicing up the forum a bit. It gets a bit boring when all the talk is about one brand.

I'm like you Glenn. Well maybe not in that if it wasn't for the wife i'd sell the pio just to see what better blacks look like. My balls just ain't big enough to justify the dollar lose to her. Otherwise, barring the lack of hdmi the panel is excellent IMHO.
