Try VideoReDo. Works good for me. 30 days free trial versions are available.
Then just get a DVD "authoring" program to make a playable DVD. I use DVDLab.
You'll probably find that these companies do make the product you want, but since Oz is
so far behind the times in the digital TV stakes they've not bothered marketing them here.
That'll change in the near future.
Dear kiwigene, thanks for those tips, I'll have a look for them later.
I wasn't aware we were so far behind the times here, I realise we are a little behind the UK, but not by much as DTV isn't due in some areas of the UK for quite some time yet.
You mention that this will change in the near future, how near is near and what (apart from turning off analogue transmissions) is going to cause the change? Should I be saving my hard earned for something "real soon now"?
Again, thanks for the software tips, cheers and all the best

Dear kiwigene, sadly (or luckily) that programme is not a cross platform solution.
Are these the sort of PVR's you are alluding to?
http://news.independent.co.uk/world/scienc...icle1962767.ecePublished in the Indie (English newspaper) on Friday.
It appears that for the Sony one at least, it is still a badge engineered effort.
One thing that does confuse me is the wildly disparate nr of hours that one is allegedly able to record with one offering almost five times the capacity for the same disk space. Whilst I realise that they are possibly reducing the quality to do that, that sort of difference is massive (is this something that is mediated through firmware updating and are our DGTEC PVR's capable of this?).
Interestingly there appears to be one of the mentioned ones is by a company called Digitec. Any relation?
Cheers and all the best

Hi all , was in Wow S/nSound Annerley on Saturday and saw a Dgtec HD160 pvr in stock. Is there any threads or reports on this,I think the exact model was DGHD160. Had on the box twin tuner record two watch one ice tv enabled etc priced at $799. Would like to hear back about this ....Thanks Timmsy.
Yep..bought one of these from Harvey Norman a week ago, couldn't get it to set up properly (kept resetting on Prime very frustrating), eventually got it to work, but again started resetting in the middle of the Melbourne cup...tried calling service, they said to update the software, so they emailled me the wrong software, when I managed to get the right software I couldn't get the PVR to load it...problems with recording and playback...eventually gave up and took it back now own an LG LST-5402P 160gb HD twin tuner, easy to use easy to set up, so far no problems.

QUOTE (Trigger221 @ Jan 9 2006, 11:00 PM)

A very big thankyou to MuzG! That price at DSE in Macquarie was great and i hadn't seen it anywhere near that price around the area.
I originally bought one from Myer who are selling it for RRP at $599, but currently have 10% off so $539.10.
I had big troubles with this unit. As soon as i got it out of the box i immediately updated the firmware off the website (050722B). I then tuned it in and it was looking good, i live very close to Channel 9 in Gore Hill and i got all digital channels including all the Digital 44 channels. The picture looks great and i was happy. It locked up once and i had to turn it off at the wall, but never did it again.
Then my big problem started. the picture intermittantly turns black and white. It's not just the broadcast though as the menu's also turn black and white, and any recording playbacks are also black and white. Then randomly colour will return and it's all fine. It happens randomly without rhyme or reason.
I proved that it wasn't a reception issue by recording as soon as it turned black and white. I decided to record on both tuners just to be sure. Once colour returned i played back the recordings and they were both in full colour. So to me that means that reception should have nothing to do with it.
So i tried different cables. I'm using the composite (yellow) output for video as i've only got a standard 59cm NEC tv which is a few years old. B&W happened with three different cables. So i then tried changing from AV1 input on the tv to AV2 input. It happened on both inputs, and i regularly use AV1 for watching DVD's through an XBOX so i know the input is ok.
So if the TV is ok and the cables are ok this says to me that it must be an output problem on the STB.
So i returned to Myer and got my money back, then went to another Myer store (as the first store had no more in stock) who price matched DSE at $448 which was great.
Again i updated the firmware and got it tuned and up and running. Then the black and white image returned!!
So today i rang the DGTEC helpline who were very helpful which was great.
The tech support guy said it sounded like a software issue and he would send me the latest firmware version which was not on the website (051221A). I installed it and it was looking good. All stations tuned in again, i now have digital radio reception in the music manager and a new option 'Ice Guide' in the settings menu.
However the black and white image returned. It doesn't seem to be as often but it still happens.
I'll be ringing tech support again tomorrow.
I'll be interested in hearing if anyone else has had this problem.

hi i have a DG-SD200PVR and as of about 2 weeks ago, about every 20 seconds or so after i turn it on, it locks up and the screen says no signal and the only way to turn it off it to unplug the power.
i have had this box for about 6 months now and have upgraded the firmware everytime a new one has been released.
i've had a bit of a play with it and reset settings and formatted HDD. I have even done an auto scan for channels without an aerial plugged in just to delete all the channels and start from scratch.
i have found that it has got something to do with the signal, but not sure what as when i took the aerial out, it did not freeze at all, but when i plugged it back in and re-scanned the channels, it found them all, played for about 20-30 seconds and then froze again.
even though i realise that it has something to do with the signal, it as been using the same aerial since i got it and have had no problems and also, if its is really the signal, why does it find them in the scan and they are able to be watched perfeclty until it freezes..
does anyone have any other ideas?? as i am starting to get really frustrated with it...

New here and not sure where to start, just moved over to Oz 11 weeks ago (PLEASE DON'T MENTION THE CRICKET FOLKS) and wanted a dvd recorder for a reasonable price which did DIVX so that i could watch any Brit TV i was missing after downloading by broadband from tv sites on net (my daughter is a big fan of the new DR Who and there is a new series starting at Xmas up there). I was recomended BY THE SALESMAN a DGTEC DGSD160DVR which i got for 490 dollars, so far its ok though very noisy when fired up, though its auto receiver system didn't manage to see chanel 7?. I have brought loads of my DVD's from the UK down, and my old English (Chinese etc) DVD has been cracked to international, as has my daughters portable, does anyone know the crack code and procedure to get my DGTEC player to play my UK discs?

Hi Guys.
I have only got a DG- SD200 a few weeks ago, and am trying to go through everything to get it working as best I can. Cactus you say update the firmware/ which is the latest one you have? as I am not sure how to find out the latest one?
I find it works well but a few things are upsetting.
1/ when you play of fast forward ETC the number counter wont go away and you have to clear it every time you do something in play back.
2/ you cant rename the files on the computer ( or I should say you can, but when you go back to the PVR, they have not changed there.)
It would make it so much quicker, and esier to do in the computer. But you have to do it in my Videos with the remote control, which is a bit slow.
Other than that it seems to be working well ( touch wood) its a bit loud with the fan working when its on, but you get used to that and only notice it when the program you are watching goes a bit quite..
Anty help or tips any one of you guys could give me would great as I am very new to all this.. Cheers Guys , and have a nice day. yanni49

Check out he DGTEC website for the latest firmware upgrade
here.
1/ yes - it doesn't timeout. You need to hit EXIT to make it go away - annoying, but pretty minor.
2/ I've never had this problem - you should just need to rename the "folders" and the video.txt file.
The latest firmware uses the EPG (or date if that's not availbale) to name the files for you.
You can disconnect the fan. I did ages ago and have had no issues.

DG-SD200PVR & DG-SD80PVR only have a USB B port, so nowhere to plug in a stick unless you have a version I haven't seen. You use a computer with a USB (A to B cable).

Hey folks,
my 200gb unit has been going like a train for over 12 months. The wife has even learnt to reset the ocassional freeze and loves the machine. I reckon the picture quality both live and recorded is great. However, Dr Phil going from channel 9 to channel 0 seems to be the cause of a new problem. Over several days the recording of Dr Phil has been corrupted. Other recordings have continued to function correctly.
Set on the manual timer, we get a green flash at about 4 minutes into the file and then the files "ends" (scene freezes) after between 13 and 19 minutes. You can manually stop the playback. Then in Video Manager it shows no recorded files but 42 hours in 2038 or something. The File Manager list reverts after a while without a reset. Other files then playback fine.
The Dr Phil captured file shows as complete on the Video Manager.
I don't think there is going to be family breakdown if this isn't resolved but it's going to be a problem if it happens to the Catherine Tate Show.
Anybody got a theory?

Yes, Dr Phil is often broadcast with a . (full stop) in the title "Dr. Phil", the dgtec firmware stuffs up when playing beyond the first file if the directory has a full stop in it. So you get the first 1 gig file played only. Try renaming it or playing it direct from the PVR HDD using Media Player Classic to see if this confirms it.

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and haven't participated before.
I bought a SD200 PVR from Harvey Norman for what seems like a good price of $499 recently. I can't say I've had any of the problems people have shared and mostly its doing what its supposed to reliably. Haven't done the firmware upgrade yet.
However, a fair bit of trial and error has been required as the instructions don't seem to be the same as what appears on the screen but mostly I've been able to work it out.
The exception is in re getting channel 31. The instructions suggest that this is possible via an "RF modulator" (see page 15 of instructions at

I think the manual is wrong (or very badly worded) and you can only set the RF modulator Output channel. This menu item doesn't appear in all firmware versions though and doesn't allow you to receive any analogue channel only output the DGTEC display to a UHF analogue output channel (out the RF Modulator output (near the digital audio out on back)).

cttc is correct. No PVR will accept external input, only input from an aerial, or in the case of the Mediastar 820, from the satellite dish input.
To record/time shift Austar you have 2 basic choices.
1. Feed the Austar box output into a DVD-R which has a HDD
2. Buy a satellite PVR like the Topfield 5000 (no longer sold in Australia), the Mediastar 820 or some other breed
I persevered with option 1 for over a year but it was a real PIA as you had to manually change the channel each time. I used a portable alarm clock to remind me.

But last year I finally relented and purchased a Topfield 5000PVR (came from Germany). However I had a lot of trouble with incorrect CAMS and a component output which did not work properly so I got sick of it and purchased a Mediastar 820. By comparison it was a dream to set up.
The Toppy went up for sale but did not move (far too expensive compared to the opposition) so I took a deep breath and finally, by using an RGB to component converter, got it integrated into the system. It is not perfect by any means and the maximum FF of 6X is frustrating + other problems I'll not bore you with.
Bottom line is I have a Mediastar 820, only a few months old, that I have no use for. Drop me an email at j_coulson@[miss this out]bigpond.com if you would be interested in buying it.

Correct it hasn't appeared on the last two firmwares and I have been chasing DGTEC to put it back in there for well over 6 months. Why ... well the old TV this runs on does not have RCA inputs. So FINALLY just the other day I got a response from Boyan at DGTEC. He said he provided a current firmware with RF modulation options but unfortunately due to time constraints I have not been able to check this out on my mother's system.
please email Boyan at dgtec@dg-tec.com.au for the software cause they need to know some people still require this option.

Thread resurrection...
I've noted this "bug", maybe some of you are aware, maybe not:
When using the EPG to set a timer recording it automatically subtracts/adds
1 min at either end of the recording time (even if you have video padding off).
In my case I was wanting to record something which started at 00:00 (i.e midnight).
The problem is, when I set the timer it put 23:59 BUT didn't adjust the date to
be one day earlier - so instead of recording 1 min before the correct time, it
started 23 hours and 59 mins after...
So just a little warning, check your EPG set timer schedules and make sure the
date is set properly.

FYI, just spoke to Dgtec, my box just died after 26months.
The company has recently been taken over by "Hills" the hoist, trampoline and antennae company.
Interesting to see what support is going to be given in the future.
They are also in the process of relocating from Dandenong to Hallam in Victoria.
On a good note, when they settle into their new premises, I will be able to order and purchase the new component to breath new life into my box.

Apparently, this is a known problem with these units.
The sympton: "Green Screen of Death" after the blue boot-up screen.

I have a SD200PVR from DGTEC that has developed quite an insurmountable problem
it will boot up and display the last channel viewed but press
any button on the
remote
control and it starts to record and the RC loses all input.
That is, I can't stop the recording - ever
Unplug from wall socket - wait 10 minutes
- boots up OK until I press the RC: and it starts to record
I don't suppose anyone has a solution other than to call the relevant Govt Department

Assuming this unit is identical to the Wintal I used to own, you should be able to get into the menu while it is recording. If so you should have access to the format option although it might not let you do that while it is recording - worth a try. And it might jolt it out of its present locked up state.
BUT do not format it via your computer or you will lose all the firmware for it to operate in the PVR.

Ok, you ether have a H/W failure or corruption in the OS (firmware). Fixing the H/W I cannot help you with within this forum. If it is OS corruption you fix that by refreshing the firmware. Problem, how do you update a machine that won’t boot correctly and as part of the update procedure requires a usb connection to a PC and access to the PVRs menu. Answer – pull the HDD out and connect it to a PC, copy DGTECDVR.BIN to the root of the HDD, yes these drives are formatted fat32 (M$). Refit drive to PVR and follow normal update procedure. No, the firmware does not live on the HDD it is flashed to EEPROM. DG-tecs site is not completely dead (yet) so you can still
use this link for the DG-SD200PVR firmware – but be quick.

I thought you had a problem with the unit and wanted to fix it. Anyhow you don't create the file system or directory structure in a PC; the PVRs software will take care of that. Upgrading the HDD opens up many more issues that need to be carefully considered.

Now that the Dgtec site has gone where can I get the latest firmware from. I was thinking of using the Icetv guide or at least have the recorded file names listed as the TV show rather than a number.
Thanks

I read in Icon recently that all free DTV channels are now broadcasting their own program guide, out to about 2 weeks? If this is so (haven't checked yet) then you wouldn't need IceTV??

Its true I can access it on my DG-SD80PVR and what is really cool I can go through the guide hit timer and the program info is auto added to the timer.
My new DG-HD160PVR though only still has now and next if you hit epg it looks for an ice-tv data file. Oh well I only got it for the new HD channels extra programs. I am going to try a free guide program I read about on this forum for that I bookmarked on My other laptop so the name escapes me and I'm too lazy to check.

do a channel re-scan. There was a notice being broadcast on CH10 prior to HD being launched that some STB owners may need to rescan channels to get the new frequencies once HD is rolled out.
Nope, did a channel re-scan and still no good, I was thinking of doing a system reset and then re-scanning channels, however I cannot find the firmware update and am concerned that I will lose that as well.
I have emailed Hills but received no reply.

Channel 10 said to do a rescan because they changed channel 1 from SD to HD

I'm having no end of problems and can't record at all.
Anyone have the latest (last!) firmware for the 80GB unit? I'm happy to host it somewhere for people to download.

Champion. Will try it to see if it fixes my issues.
Seems that
www.dgtec.com.au now points to a supplier's website.. and a real old one too!

After about 27 months of slightly buggy but completely adequate operation my DGTEC DGSD80PVR with HDD upgraded to 320G has decided to consistently play up. Startup is difficult, often some of the lights on the front display don't light up correctly, the startup screen, channel and on-screen-display appear as usual (but startup does seem shorter) but no control is possible using the remote or the buttons on the front panel. A few restarts later and control is restored, everything works fine as long as you don't try to record anything. Recording with either tuner causes the second tuner to consistently freeze for long periods, sometimes permanently (only a channel change gets it streaming again), 'no signal' sometimes flashes on the screen. While recording with either tuner, the first tuner also has fairly common drop-outs but never completely freezes.
I've tried the following with no success:
*formatting
*clearing settings
*two different hard drives, both scanned for errors and come up clean.
*3 different firmware (was using latest 061009B)
*different aerial sockets and cables (even though there is no problem with signal strength)
*retuning channels
*visual check of internals - no visible sign of problems.
*and finally giving it a good smack... (although this may seem tactless it works for some old tvs I've had the pleasure of 'fixing')
