Hi All,

Have been reading with interest the prices on SD and HD Plasma screens and have just recently purchased a Optima 42" Screen (PPMA42SD00).

Whilst the screen is reported to be SD, and certainly is advertised as such - the instruction manual clearly states in the "Table of HDTV resolution supported" 480p, 720p & 1080i!

The deal i got included an Optima SD STB, however it is very basic for a STB it only has stereo output even with optical connection. sad.gif But i can not complain as i got the lot for $2529.00 plus another $339.00 for extended warranty from the Good Guys.

Am about to purchase a HD STB and see what happens when Ii put a HD signal through it - will let you know.

If it works it has to be the cheapest HD Plasma i have ever seen smile.gif

ALL plasmas support HD - they just scale the incoming signal to their own native resolution. In order to truly have a HD plasma you need a screen capable of natively resolving 1920 X 1080.

Although there is a market place 'thing' that any screen over 1024 X 720 is also HD. Mostly because you cant buy a 1920 X 1080 plasma.

Your screen is SD and scales the incoming HD resolution to its own SD panel resolution.

Hope I havent disappointed you!

Forgot to add - check your user manual. The specifications page should list the native resolution of your plasma - most likely 852 X 480 or thereabouts.

If you plug in a HD box you will get HD scaled to 852 X 480 (or whatever the exact specs. of your screen are).

It will look good - better than SD anyway (most of the time huh.gif ) but its not true HD.

1280x720 is a true HD display, there are 2 HD resolutions.

1280x720p is prgressive scan.
1920x1080i is interlaced.

Currently no one uses 720p in Australia though.
