As per usual a superficial look at new television viewing technology. It was a none-too-subtle plug for Foxtel Digital's IQ PDR.
Always the hard-hitting journalism.
Am I being too sarcastic?

Oops: wrong topic perhaps.

Nup - your right on the money - Current Affair ceased being about true investigative journalism years ago.

Now its just muck raking and trawling for ratings. If anything you are too kind on them!

Yeah what a load of crap, was flicking thru the channels and saw the story.I thought they were pushing something and then bingo ' Foxtel' is mentioned. I gave up watching a Current Affair years ago for the blatant advertising that they always do.

Why not! Kerry Packer is after all a 25% stake holder in Foxtel ...

Why is anyone surprised? My first reaction to the promo for the story was "oh look, ACA's going to run a Foxtel plug", and then switched to SBS to watch some real news.

You are right on the money, a lot of people have no concept of FTA digital at all. A few months ago on Nova 100 breakfast Kate was complaing about missing a show and a listener sent her an email that a digital PVR like a Topfield would be a good solution. Kate's next comment was "oh do I need cable for that"

Packer's dogs have run out of things to do. They may as well run streams of Foxnews though they'd get complaints from the HD viewers.

With the commercial FTA busy running their own little digital agendas we sort of have to rely on SBS and/or the ABC to promote real-world digital FTA options. It would be nice if there was a program on a non-commercial channel that could explain what's already humming its way through millions of TV antennae across Australia.

However, while explaining the componentry, as soon as someone mentions an electronic brand name there would be concerns they (dear old Aunty in particular) were promoting a certain manufacturer. Take out these particulars, and any in depth account of usage, and viewers are left with little to work from without risking confusion with digital payTV once they go looking for the bits.

An unbiased TV show might be best, but maybe a well presented brochure and letterbox drop from DBA appropriate to a region?
