Howdy everyone

Thanks for everyone's contributions on the forums. has been very helpful.

I have recently purchased an LG 42PX3RVC with the built in SD tuner.

Im not overly impressed with the free to air picture quality and was thinking of buying a STB

is it worth buying a HD STB over an SD? even though it is just an SD panel?

YES - the HD output will be re-scaled by your plasma screen to its native resolution. You will get a picture that is better than standard SD - the quality of the picture will vary depending on the quality of the source and the quality of your plasma's internal scaler.

The quality will also vary from channel to channel based on what each channel is spewing out at the time (note its usually pretty average and bandwidth starved)

Hi
I have the same panel but using the LG 4100p STB. The PQ is as good as its going to get. The standard tuners built into the panel are anologue, not SD...thats why its crappy.
Good Luck

Yes the tuner in LG 42PX3RVC is an analogue tuner. The new model LG 42PX4DV has an in-built Digital HD tuner.
