Hi,
Had the 5390 PVR for a year now and decided it's time to upgrade the firmware after reading the improvments that can be gained. I downloaded V077 & the install software (have the laptop and db9 cable) but can't find instructions. I remember reading previously you had to boot the 5290 once all pluged in and software running etc.
Can anyone help ?

Thanks
Adrian

These were the instructions for the last upgrade I did.

SRT 5390
1. Please save the three following files in a new directory of your hard disk drive:
Download.exe
srt5390.bin (updated on the 30/06/04)
SRT 5390 Software changes.doc
Vol73.doc
2. Make sure SRT 5390 Power is off
3. Connect 9 Pin Null modem cable to SRT 5390 RS232 Port and corresponding Port of your PC
4. Go to the directory where you have saved the two files and double click on Download.exe
A window named DownLoader V_1.21 will open
5. In the DownLoader V_1.21 window, choose Open from the File menu and select the file srt5390.bin from the directory where you have saved the 2 files. Press Start.
The message "Waiting for STB" will be displayed
6. Turn on AC power or plug in AC Power line
Downloading will start and take a few minutes. Upon completion the message "Success" will be displayed
7. Update now completed: Recommend that a Factory Reset now be actioned by going into the Menu and select Installation, and then select the topic ‘Factory Reset’.
8. Once factory reset has been completed, Go into the menu and select Installation and select and perform Automatic Scan to lock in all frequencies.

Will try.
Didn't see the "SRT 5390 Software changes.doc" on the Strong web site ?
Sorry for the typo, it was the 5390 I am upgrading.
PS. Does the V077 include all previous patches if not already applyed ?

Thanks again

No doco and the latest firmware contains all previous upgrades.
The zip file contains
downloader (DownLoad_Software_Uploaders_Australasia.exe)
and
firmware (SRT5390_MN_20050203_VO77_Software_Softwares_Austrlasia.bin)

Go to the directory where you have saved the two files and double click on DownLoad_Software_Uploaders_Australasia.exe
In the downLoader window, choose Open from the File Menu and select the file SRT5390_MN_20050203_VO77_Software_Softwares_Austrlasia.bin from the directory where you have saved the 2 files
Press Start

Turn on AC power or plug STB into AC Power line

Once factory reset has been completed go into the menu, select Installation and then select and perform Automatic Scan to lock in all frequencies

Thanks,
All completed and running.
Had to set the com port up to the correct settings after it didn't work on 9600 that well, ie
115kbps,8,1,none,xon/off. Took several minutes as explained. seemed to work without the factory reset, but did it anyway. Rescanned the channels.

All looks good.
Thanks for your help.

It'd be nice if strong published its "fix list" with each version of firmware it posts on its website.

I have version V076 installed on my 5390 and i'm not sure if it's worth going for the V077 upgrade since i have no idea what has changed.

Be even better if they published on-going updates on their web site as well. VO73 & VO77 are the only ones there, what happened to 74/75/76 as they were loading these if your unit went in to Strong for update/repair.

I can only say that after getting the v.077 upgrade, my Strong IMHO is a better and easier "box of bolts" to use. The remote fast forward is significantly more responsive, the instant record is simpler. However, as my Strong was also being repaired at the same time, maybe a few other complaints I had were fixed.

SRT 5390 Software Changes vo77

1. Standby Mode Boot Up Fix
The Issue: Unit when in standby automatically ‘boots up’ and time clock is lost preventing Delayed Timer Recordings:
In this situation 4 bars - - - - are displayed.
New software 77 provides a fix for this issue

2. Timer Overlap
The Issue: Not recognising individual 24 hour event; causing ‘overlap’ when multiple delayed recordings are input.
New Software 76 provides a fix for this issue

*** WARNING WARNING ***
If using a laptop with IR make sure you don't have the IR port pointed so it faces the Strong box.

Had fun in the last couple of hrs when I brought the laptop into the lounge to upload the latest firmware upgrade. Everything went fine, connected them together with the Serial cable, units synced together, update loaded ok, did the reboot, did the factory reset and then the Strong went absolutely "spastic" - rebooting, changing channels, bringing up menus - I was tearing my hair out trying to think what was going on. But alas, the laptop was on the floor and it's IR port was pointing directly to the Strong, covered it with a notepad and WALLAH no problem after that.

The joys of IT & HT all came together today wacko.gif

Well V077 seems to be the go - time recorded over 8 pgm's yesterday as a test and the unit didn't stuff up once, hasn't reset yet either as it used too, seems to be pretty stable now and most of the bugs fixed.
