Portable AVI players?

Does anyone own one?

I have heard that 20+ gig AVI players are out there;

iRIVER
CREATIVE
TELEFUNKEN

What I like about them, that there small and can play back through TV.

Thoughts anyone?

I've got a dvd (rather than hard drive or flash) based one from neuneo.

It ended up being $450 delivered, plays everything I've tried so far and has nice little features like an FM transmitter, analog tv tuner, AV inputs. You can also use it as a USB2 dvd-rom drive.

I really bought it as a little display with lots of options (the 7 inch diagonal is a functional size for my work).

Hows the the play back to TV WS?

I haven't tried too many dvds. It certainly is convenient for playing back xvid (I missed the early battlestar galactica episodes, and it was a godsend for catching up with them).

Composite out only, and xvid is already very soft, but better than vhs. It offers options for tv out including widescreen, pan and scan and letterboxed. There is also an spdif (I think 3.5mm plug - non-standard) out, which I haven't used.

It has a little remote control, and serves reasonably well as a media player if you're happy to put up with the composite out issue and don't mind burning everything on a dvd-r.

Struggles with xvid off of cd-r - I presume simply unable to read at the bit-rate at least with the cheapo blanks I've tried.
Koops
genx: I've got an iRiver pmp-120 (paid $400). TV playback is deperate at best. Its low res even with good quality almost dvd res source video. I'm not sure what its doing, its almost like its down sampling it. I don't watch it via tv much at all however so it might have only been the few videos that I did test with it.

The player is good doing its main job of watching videos on the go. My wife and myself use it on the daily hour trip to the city every day. Menu system is difficult at first but I got used to it.

seems like the DVD Divx idea is cheaper/easy way for quality...

Hi there,

I have had one of the Archos AV480 players & it is pretty impressive. I havent hooked it up to my TV but for watching movies on planes etc it is fantastic. Take a look at the new PMA430. That is the one that I now have it is pretty impressive.
