I am looking for a recommendation for a small flat screen CRT TV (3:4) with s-video input to be used with my NLE video editing system.
RGB input would be nice but not essential.
Sizes up to 51cm.
Picture quality is IMPORTANT
Audio quality is irrelevant.

Hi Greg

For my NLE editing setup (Mac/Final Cut) I hunted round for ages for a smallish CRT with these features, but gave up because I found absolutely nothing at all. Ended up buying a 14" 4:3 $200 Konka (!) which I'm more than happy with. I can feed it s-video from my computer ATI Radeon video card (signal is converted to composite), which then controls the TV. Can even switch to widescreen format. There was an LCD for c. $600 at Dick Smith, but no good to me, as it was LCD and not even widescreen switchable. (I shoot all my stuff 16:9).

There are small professional CRT monitors that have exactly what you want but not worth $750 IMHO for what I do.

One of the small Sony professional monitors would be ideal for your set-up. They are accurate, pretty high resolution (about 450 lines) and tweakable for correct colour temp etc. Unfortunately one of these will set you back about $1200.

This NEC: NEC - PF51T32 here at Retravision might do the trick.

There's a 51 cm panasonic with component in but getting your video card to drive it may be a path to madness.

For whatever reason there seem to be heaps of no-name brand options, as well as teac and palsonic.

Tried eBay?

This may be suitable: Athough you don't say where you are located, this one is pick-up only.

I was fortunate to win one just last week, which is higher res and with composite/component/RGB/S Video & VGA inputs for only $45.00 (only one other bid!)

Also picked up a Philips 14" broadcast monitor a while back in perfect condition for $250.00. Compared it side by side with a Sony $6K unit and couldn't see much difference.

There's bargains out there, just need to be in the right place at the right time!
