Full Version: Strong 5390 minor annoyance

Strange TD above I know, however:

I had to buy a replacement DVD player the other day so I got a KMart cheapie Audiosonic for $79 with all the bells and whistles and 3 BBC DVDs in the box. Since connecting it up via Kenwood A/V receiver I am encountering some odd annoyances on the 5390.

When the 5390 wakes up from standby, the picture is in B&W and I have to go into the menu, system parameters, A/V mode and switch out from Y/C then back to Y/C to get colour back. Also the 5390 is set up to schedule record Denton every Monday night, which it had done faultlessy for months until this week when it did not stop recording at the preset time and was still going 13 hours later (lucky I noticed as it was down to less than 10% capacity remaining!).

What I have noticed is that when I press certain buttons on the new DVD remote the red light on the 5390 blinks and I think this might be the cause of the 13 hour recording fiasco, but I don't see how a remote could affect the colour output from the 5390....

Any ideas or thoughts.

David.

BTW. I have a Neotech NRC-2010 programmable Remote, but haven't tried to put the new DVD onto it yet.

Yes, I bought a cheapie XMS DVD for Mum, for Mothers Day, but tested it at home to make sure it all worked before giving it to her. And the remote on that kept making the 5390 change channels etc. Maybe from the same factory as the Audiosonic? Maybe cheapie remotes aren't quite as discrete in their codes?

BTW, I am up to 9 remotes now, and they don't seem to conflict with each other.

Best of luck,
Dik

Hi Dik

The Neotech can take up to 10 remotes into 1. I have (or had) the following programmed into it with no conflicts (in fact the Audiosonic is the ONLY remote I've ever had a problem with):

Kenwood A/V receiver;
JVC widescreen TV;
Strong 5390;
Avermedia TV/FM capture card in PC;
TwinHan HD-DTV card in PC;
Philips DVD player (espensive, dead, now gone);
Magnavox DVD plaer (cheap, dead, now gone);
TEAC VCR (absolute cr*p, dead, now gone);
Creative SB Live Drive (temporarily gone, but may be back soon - another unrelated problem);

I will try the Audiosonic into it soon and see what happens - sheeeit, the whole thing might self destruct!

Cheers,

David.
