I am interested in the Teac PVR-100T SD box with 120Gb HDD (twin tuner). I have read the manual and it looks very good. See http://stb.teac.com.au for model info. Has anyone bought one of these yet and if so where did you get it from, how much and what's the unit like? How does it compare with others?

Regards
Dallas

Well, just went out and purchased one of these..haggled with them (JB-HiFi) & settled for $585.00.

I was dealing with the actual Manager of the store & he said he is using one of these units at home & has no complaints so far.

He also told me that Teac's problems were a blessing in disguise as Teac Japan will be dealing direct with Teac here, which will be for the better.

He told me they had no issues with me returning it if it was not suitable..so will keep you informed in a few days as to how i go.
Az.
I'm also keen to get some feedback on this unit. I'm really surprised it hasn't aroused more interest in this forum.

Must be too many one eyed Toppy owners here.....(that'll stir em up!)

One main issue here is whether the USB port can actually upload to the PC.
I called TEAC and they claimed it does but I feel the guy himself had no idea and was just assuming that it will as USB will on a PC. But this is not necessarily so for DTV.

If it does it is still not the faster USB2 but may help lower the Toppie prices for us!

OK, a quick review.

The unit i had was full of bugs, the main ones being these;

(1) Timer function not working properly..would start and stop outside of the actual times set.
(2) PVR list would not delete programs..it jammed during the process & locked up the unit.
(3) Clock was completely out of whack..kept changing time & unable to reset until i rebooted.

Well, after 3 days of total frustration i could have tossed it out the window, but hey, i wanted my money back.

I took it back to JB HiFi who did not have another one in stock, and can you believe that initially they did not want to give me my money back, but wanted to send it back to Teac to be repaired.

Only after a lot of persistence, stating the Consumer Law Act, did i finally get a refund. Needless to say i will not be buying anything from them again.

In conclusion, was the unit a faulty one? Well, i just don't know as i was unable to test another one. My own thoughts are that it has some fairly bad inherent design problems, and i will definately not be buying another one.

Personally, i do not think it is going to do that well in the market place, and certainly will be no competition for the Toppy.

I would be interested in anyone who has one of these, and their comments on its performance.
