Hi, I am considering buying one of the Loewe CRT models and was just wondering if this brand of TV is reliable, also how it compairs to other brands like Sony and Panasonic.
Widescreen and HD capable with DVI or HDMI inputs is what I am after.

Loewes are the best SD CRT tvs, however they are not HD.

Loewe have cut their prices quite significantly lately. The Xelos widescreen 76cm for example is now $1000 less than what i paid for it 2 years ago.
Better picture quality than anything else i've seen. Just not HD. But a good SD STB via RGB SCART will produce a stunning picture.

I went to have a look at them today at a VIP event Truscott was having. The picture quality on them is very nice, the price wasn't bad at $2,600 for the 81cm (76cm) with 3 component inputs and RGB.

I've got a leowe Aconda which I purchased a couple of years ago. I also partner that set with a srong standard def box and the picture really is stunning!
But it is not High def and it doesn't have dvi.

Tkd90, I think you will find both dvi and hdmi are digital inputs, hence you will not find them on any crts and hence the suggestion above re more research. Hope this gets you started.

I would not recommend a Loewe CRT to anyone. I bought a Loewe CRT and had not end of trouble. Mainly purity issues but also some electronics. The only fix for this is to have purity magnets installed which I believe is an unsatisfactory work around to an inherent problem of tubes made on the other side of the world. I do admit that the picture once the magnets were fitted was fantastic but based on the money Loewe charge I do not think fitting magnets the day the set is delviered in good enough.
After a lot of pain and many survice calls and a few swapped overs I ended up returning the set and got my money back. I would never get a Loewe again.
Both, the Aconda & Aventos suffer from these problems regularly. Also, seems to have a fair few return rate based on a recent Choice Mag survey. I say stay away...not worth the $$$ Loewe charge.

I have own 3 loewes and they have been fantastic TV's. An old 70 4:3 and and Cantus (70cm) and Xelos (81cm)
They are great TV's I had some probs with 4:3 with speakers placed next to them., however they all had superb PC.
I think they are the best SD TV's that you can get

Spot on! Couldn't put it any better myself. Not a single problem after 3 years. Absolutely superb picture quality.

Auntie has a swag of them for 'off air monitoring' and they suffer badly from 'burn in.

For home use, and from a good dealer, the Loewe CRTs have historically been the top SD displays available.
These days, though, most people in the premium end of the market want larger displays.
Caveats:
-Budget models (esp. with the power supply problem).
-Units bought from so-so dealers (wont fix the problem pronto or replace unit, etc).
-HT transformers at one point were liable to go bang. Sets should survive this though.
However:
-I've had more problems with high end Sony products.
-I wouldn't touch the kind of junk (read: LG) with Surly Support® (read: LG) that some quality-knockers love... there's more to a fantasic image than a cheap price and bumped-up contrast settings...

I've had an 82cm Credo since 2000 and the only problem I've had was a blown HT power supply a month ago. The tech had it going in 40 minutes for $300 all up. See how much Sony/Panasonic want to repair the same part!!! They are a great TV and the PQ still looks great and still shites on any HD Sony or Panasonic I've seen. Add the excellent sound quality and you have a top unit. I've goy mine hooked up to a Toshiba SD900e via scart RGB and the picture is absoulutely amazing in its 3D quality. I've got a 42"HD NEC plasma and a 26" Toshiba LCD to compare it to and I still love the pictuure on the Credo...

I bought a Loewe Mimo 28" or $1300 (including the cutey) stand during Christmas sale. I can't be more happy with its performance so far.
