$3800 is a bit too much for the vr5, it can be had for $3,000 easily. I was leaning towards this screen but I'm now leaning towards the Panasonic 7 series just based on reactions from people overseas and the fact the panasonic has the best blacks in the business which is important to me.

could anyone please tell me where I could see a Pani TH42PWD7WK on display in the Newcastle area.

Also, a previous post said that the NEC PX42VR5W could be had for about $3000 - any ideas where?

The 7 series are considered to be commercial panels, so it will be hard to find them in retail stores. Avaction are an on-line seller located in Terrigal. They may be able to help you. You can find them on the net at avaction.com.au
