Looking at the hitachi 42PMA300A for $3500 or the NECPX42VR5W. Which is the better screen of the two or does anybody know of a better buy in the price range?

First time plasma buyer with very little knowledge of electonical products. Any help appreciated.

I would check out the new panasonic 7 series displays, I was looking at hte NEC but im now leaning towards the TH-42PWD7WK. All reports are the picture is sensational but I haven't had time to see it yet. It can be had for around $3200.00

Thanks for the tip. Do you know if the NEC PXT42VR5W is a Japanese made screen and the NEC PXT 42S11S is a Korean made screen. Ive heard this elsewhere. Anyone have the difference in price for these two models?
MarkH
That is correct. The 42S11 is a mass-market product which is NOT made in Japan (contrary to what Retravision catalogues say). The VR5 can be had for around the same cash, so this makes it a no-brainer in my opinion.

magregus - where can the new Panny be had for that kinda money? I thought RRP was $4999 on the new 7 series?

The NEC at pluscorp for $3062 does not include a stand, I have had prices from Harvey N at $3250 with stand, same at HiFi Supermarket , Conia for $1990 delivered and installed is the cheapest Plasma price I have seen so far,
foxtail
What is the Conia like anyone know?. I'm looking for a 42" Plasma for casual viewing as I already have a Pj and 2m screen.

The NECPX42VR5W is an awesome plasma... it shares the 16 billion colours and heaps of inputs as the HD version - I would definitely recommend it! Try qsphere as they have it pretty aggressively priced as well.

i got the NEC SD PX-42VM5W from pluscorp...exceptionally happy with the unit..

read other thread for pricing on it..
johntech
The 42VM5W is a multi award winning model, it features a Japanese panel AND Japanese electronics.
The PXT-42 11S or whatever it's called uses a Japanese panel but married to Korean electronics.
It's not exactly an award winner and only $5 difference in retail....you be the judge.

Oh the cheapie also has an Analogue TV tuner (remember them?) whereas the 42VM5W is a plasma MONITOR....i.e. just a screen.
