perhaps old news for the toppy die hards, but this did catch my eys.

http://www.dba.org.au/newsletter/IB-AprMay...ll.asp#PRODUCT4

strangely no mention on the toppy site on exact details on it.

I do like sounds of this black beast from what I read in the article in the dba newsletter though...

"Due to popular demand the Topfield TF5000PVRt is to be made available in black, as well as the current, popular silver model. The "Black Panther Edition" will also include a stylish new remote and a special edition gift box. The first shipment will be a limited release and is due to hit the shelves by 1 June"

The "Black Panther" Edition?

Perhaps this version of the Toppy not only records TV shows, but also fights for civil rights in its spare time smile.gif

Sounds like a poor second prize instead of the 7000!

Or maybe they are just copying Strong (now waits for venemous posts smile.gif)

I Phoned Topfield about it a couple of days ago. I wasn't worried about the colour but the possibility of Different remote. They thought it did come with a different frequency remote which was what I would be after.
For good or bad, I have 4 zones in house all linked via IR Dinky links. This would mean I could have a Toppy in bedroom for wife and not be overriding the commands from lounge.
I could try the new Teac or Strong, but the Toppy does all I want it to do, I just don't want to share it at night.
You do get addicted to using these things.

Here's another image if you want to see the new remote.

I'd be a bit concerned that remote has got those damn little rubber (did I press that or not?) buttons!

Hmm, I think I'll stick with the current remote, thankyou.

Restrain yourself, Santa!

A black Toppy - is that a concession?

Maybe its the one with the "automatic" watermark remover, thats a civil right I wouldn't mind having back. sad.gif sorry, couldn't help myself.

But seriously, if someone could make a cheap box (say upto $50) that you could stick between your input and output, which would remove any watermarks (restoring the orginal image, not just bluring out) and self adjusts as the the TV stations change them, I would say you could have more money then Bill Gates.

I might look at geting one of these. I love black! Silver sux big time! But I only expect to absolutly pay no more than $900. $800 - $850 is what I'm looking at.

me too, actually I always thought the silver one looked a bit kitchy and think the black one & remote looks pretty neat, plus think I've just about given up waiting for a hdpvr to come out (any brand - any model! - from anywhere)

anyone got anymore info on the black panther - connectivity / features/ bigger hd, or is this just a silver one now with a black case and new black remote.
glenncol
Looks nice guys i also love black but hold out that little longer for the HD's
Timmy Downawell
Pfft... stick it in a cupboard and be done with it!
ToeCutter
You're not worried about heat?
Timmy Downawell
Nah, I stuck a fan in it. It's fine... in fact it's cooler than it was outside the cupboard sans fan, because the fan actvely draws heat away from the HDD.

If I had to look at it I'd go for the black in a second.. although I don't like that new remote.

Fortunately the only place I have for it is in the cupboard. My Grundig DVD player got a black spraypaint, though.
...
Actually the silver Toppy and the Teac DV-B800 look great together!

Both look similar on the front and have exactly the same frontal profile.

I have them sitting side by side below my silver LCD. biggrin.gif

BTW all of the rest of my components are black, behind tinted glass in a cabinet below these units, with black speakers either side........

Cheers,
Peter
