Hi
I'm new to the board and to the Topfield. I've just been setting it up and wondered if anyone knows a way of changing the actual numbers assigned to channels. I have looked for TAPs, but can't find any.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated, as having channel 7 as '6' etc is so counter intuitive.

Hmm that sounds very strange should be correct immediately...
What region are you in?

Just a tip for getting help on the Toppy, Topfield have their own forum for Toppy related stuff at http://www.topfield-australia.com.au

I actually don't know either! smile.gif

Welcome to Logical Channel Numbering. The reason you are watching channel 6 and not 7 is that you are watching Prime and not Seven. This is the way the DTV system is designed in Australia and all STBs should work this way. It avoids confusion in areas where both metro and regional stations are available (6/7, 8/9 and 5/1 are the pairings between regional/metro LCNs (Prime, WIN and SC10 where I live).

He could be in Regional QLD watching Seven Queensland (which is also LCN 6).

I'm actually in Canberra. I understand the 'logical' biz, but find downright stupid. My previous STB (TEAC) had a facility to change the numbering assignment.

Thanks for the pointer to Topfield - I've sent them a request for help. Who knows... if it can be done, and no-one else comes up with an answer (or a TAP), I'll post their response here.

Thanks guys

Changing the numbers assigned to channels can't be done, as this is "standard" behaviour for set top boxes (not that all obey the standards). But, you can change the order of the channels and the way the Toppy cycles through channels by using the 'favorites" groupings - see the menus and manuals for details.

Okay - word from Topfield is that it can't be done, but I have started using TAPs and noticed that improbox.tap has a different numbering system to LCN (if desired). Now I just have to find out how to edit that!

A TAP called DirLister will also place the text name (Ten, Nine, ABC2) onscreen for a second when you change channels.

I agree with you. I understand the logic of the current arragements also, but find it frustrating that i can't assign a number of my choice for the Toppy to display on its front panel when i am viewing a particular channel (e.g. 009 for WIN, 007 for Prime, 002 for ABC, 010 for TEN, etc.) - regardless of what 'real' number that channel has assigned to it 'behind the scenes' so-to-speak. A TAP that did this would be great.

Maxxie, the numbers shown in Improbox are the order in which the channels appear in the full list when you press the OK button.

Best thing for you to do is create a "favourites" group and drop in ABC ABC2 SBS Seven Nine and Ten (whatever you want) and then just use the Ch+ and Ch- keys to scroll through them.

Bump.

Does anyone know if there's been any improvements in this area (TAP, firmware upgrades or otherwise)? I've just moved from Brisbane to Mackay, and also find the inconsistent numbering a little annoying.

easiest way is to create a new favourites list and select only your favourite channels (mine is named best) ... once the favourites list is selected, changing channels up or down will only cycle through your pre-determined list.....

All Questions Answered (PINNED) has a paragraph on renaming cannels and adding them to your favourites to get the effect BM describes.
