HI,

By using an adaptor can the Toppy 5000 be viewed using Scart to component? will this give a better picture than s-video? Can the audio still be used through optical to an amp?

thanks

Yes. My Toppy came with the Scart->Component cable in the box. Component will be better than S-Video. And yes to the audio question too.

It's an excellent product wub.gif . If you're thinking of getting one, all I can say is BUY BUY BUY! biggrin.gif

I just bought a toppy and was very pleased when on the saw the scart to component cable with all 5 rca leads for video and audio. Howver, this was until I saw the crap picture quality that it put out with this setup. The colours were totally over saturated resulting in people looking like they had freak tans, white colours being blushish grey and green being brownish.

I have the 120 Gig machine ID 416 and versionn v5.2.49 and am displaying on a 44" LG DLP rear pro. tv.

Have you tried to use the passthru VCR scart connection with component from some other source? (need a component => Scart connector)
Eg. DVD player?
I am wondering if the component output via passthru is similarly corrupted.....
If it is then the screen's settings can be adjusted to compensate.
As I plan to use the passthru for the DVD component out, (I only have one component input on my screen) if it is not similarly distorted then I am somewhat snookered! sad.gif

If only there was a Scart to Dsub adapter out there I would be set!

Cheers,
Peter

Upgrading to the latest (MAR 2005) firmware is meant to improve the problem with Component output. If your TV can accept RGB, the picture should be a lot better.

Had you calibrated your set prior to connecting the Toppy? The "factory" settings on a lot of models can be quite shocking, and the Toppy problem makes it a little more obvious.

I can't say that I've heard this one before - where did you see that? I haven't noticed any difference with the component out, but then I was happy with it to start with.

I was also happy with the component output to start with, just to make sure I got a RGB to component converter, the RGB from the toppy is very good.
If your TV can accept RGB use it, if not buy the converter.

JasonBB your projector does SCART and your Toppy does SCART.

I've got the same setup and have been tossing up with a few things, particularly that my receiver has component switching which I really like for ease of use.

However by most accounts the SCART cable should provide a better image. But is there really a visible difference? Is it like the speaker cable analogy where some claim the difference is huge where others think there is no difference at all?

I'd like to try component from my Toppy to the AE700 and the best way is to try it myself but I don't really want to buy an adaptor just for experimentation.

Have you tried the SCART connector on your AE700? If so, how does it compare to the component?

Given that the Toppy does Component out, I don't think we need to recommend that people buy an RGB-Component converter for ~$100. On a calibrated display, the component out looks quite acceptable.
