Just wondering if anyone has tried to transfer their laserdisc collection to DVD yet and is it possible?? The player is the common garden variety Pioneer CLD-260.

Thanks for any replies.

You should be able to record the analogue outputs to DVD. How ever to get better results see the attached www site.

Hi.

You won't have any problems recording your Laser Discs to DVD.
I have done a few using S-video connection to my Philips recorder
that can record Pal/Ntsc automatically.

Fantastic, thanks for the replies. Here's another project to amuse me!!

Wow, just read the ten simple steps to authoring the DVD from Laserdisc! So it's not as simple as buying a DVD recorder and connecting it to the laserdisc player then? Is there an easier way??

Hi.
My advice is to keep it simple, use a standalone DVD recorder, the quality
of the recording is very good, and you can also do your old VHS tapes and
digital camcorder ones as well.

Thanks Keith for the recommendation. Do you have a DVD Recorder in mind for this??

I have transferred my Laser discs (NTSC) across to DVD-R by using a Panasonic DMR E 30 works well. With the Pana it is possible to use the Flexible record option. So if the Laser disc is say 2hrs 20mins long, use the FR mode & set 2hrs 22mins and play the LD & pause the recording to change sides, play sides 2,3 etc restart DVD-R etc and it fills a DVD-R to capacity with the best possible PQ.
Hope this helps,
BTW I saw a DMR e-55 the other day (similar to mine for $499, I am sure this could be bettered though.
The DMR series also record to DVD-RAM so if your Home PC can read DVD-RAM you can transfer to PC, edit with your favourite authoring s/w etc...& burn to DVD-R, erase DV-RAM & start again!

Whatever DVD recorder that you get make sure it is one of the top brands
that have a good warranty. My Philips DVDR-75 comes with a three year one.
BTW, I record everything on DVD+RW and then just make a straight copy to
DVD-R on my computer

Cheers Keith.

Thanks guys for all your help! That's given me plenty to go with. I'll let you know if I get stuck!!

I was looking at the either purchasing the Pana with 80g HDD, Toshie or Sony!
