Hey Guys,
Just got my toppy yesterday. Fantastic! I just need advice on how to upgrade the software on it and add new TAP's. I'm a total newby. I can't figure this auto-start folder people talk about. Is it on the toppy or computer? I'm using an Apple Mac with the Mac TF program. I connect to the toppy and upload, but then what? Someone please help!

Cheers

Nitrous,

I don't use a Mac but if you have the Mac TF up and running then everything else should be easy.

TAPs generally come as zipped files; you need to extract the .tap and .ini (if any) files and upload to the Toppy via Mac TF. Your Toppy should come standard with three directories: Recorded Services, MP3 & Program Files. Yuo can see these on your Toppy by pressing the Recorded Services button (above the yello & green button); use the << or >> button to toggle between the three. If there isn't an Auto Start sub directory within Program Files, you will need to create one if you want the TAPs to load upon booting the Toppy (which you will want for some). You can create folders on the Toppy by hitting the green button when the Program Files list is displayed, and you most likely could do it via Mac TF also. If you create the Auto Start folder, make sure it is named exactly the same as mentioned.

Any TAPs you load into the Program Files directory can be executed via the Recorded Services/MP3/Program Files button by selecting them and hitting OK.

For all the latest on TAPs, check out Tony's page pinned at the top of this forum, and also try the forum on the Topfield Site

I missed the bit about upgrading software, check out these links:

Upgrade Procedure for Mac

General Instructions for Upgrade

Make sure you read all of the first topic; it starts off saying you can't upgrade via a Mac, but then it seems to say you can.

Hey, thanks heaps Bruiser. Got the TAPS to work (the one's that don't need the firmwear upgrade, anyway). Couldn't for the life of me get the firmwear upgrade to load. Tried everything included from the link. Hopefully I'll get it to work eventually! Thanks again for the help.

Great that you got the TAPs going. As for the firmware upgrade via VPC, I've given up for the time being. Maybe there is some magic combination that will make it work, but I've resigned myself to lugging the Toppy to a PC elsewhere to do the update when I get around to it.
