I have had a Sasung 42" PS4SD4S for 7 months, screen went blank yesterday (was watching DVI input at the time but is black for all inputs). My STB was set at 1080i but the website lists the screen as a 720p display (and was sold as a SD). Could of this overworked the TV or did I just get a dud? Any opions on warranty?

Howdy,

Im not familiar with the samsung, however it certainly sounds like its a service-call - if all inputs are dead (black) and you have different devices plugged into each one, then it sounds very much like something has failed in your display.

most 720p displays convert 1080i into 720p - if you check the book, im sure you will find that it will accept a 576i/p, 720p and 1080i signals - you wouldnt have been overworking the TV.

567P is classed as high definition by the broadcasters, a HD READY display is one that can display 1920x1080i (which is what real high-definition is at the moment), there are a heap of other terms manufacturers/retailers use to get people to think they are buying a HD display, when they are buying a low resolution display that is able to convert a 1080i signal into 576i (or 720p or 576p) that it is able to display.

If it has displayed 1080i correctly via DVI for 7 months then I'd say that's not your problem!

Sounds like something has gone wrong with the display. I'd be talking to the people you bought it from.
