I have a Teac DVB 420 which I run to my 76cm Panny television using SVIDEO.

Am wondering how the Wintal PVR-X10 picture would quality compare to my Teac dedicated set top box using the same input method (ie SVIDEO. I believe the Wintal doesn't have Component )

Comments?

thanks.

I don't have Teac to compare but find the svideo output on the Wintal excellent.
It will also output RGB via the SCART.

Ah, didn't know that.

RGB is even better than Component I believe.

Does the Wintal PVR come with a SCART to RGB cable I could use to feed my Panasonic 76cm tv ?

Mine only came with a composite cable - I had to buy the scart adapter and svideo cable.
Some people have reported Wintals coming with svideo cables as well in recent times.

The way the Wintal is advertised does not make it all all clear that RGB output is available - makes it sound like the SCART only supports svideo.

They don't make a fuss because RGB is a european standard, and not available in many Japanese and Asian manufactured units. However if you buy German, it is a handy feature.

hmm interesting.

so if I bought a Wintal could I buy a SCART to RGB (Component?) cable to run into my Panasonic 76cm tv ?

What you want is a RGB to Component adaptor - which would be very costly. Just stick with the s-video, the quality is still very high.

I recently saw a scart to component adaptor block for sale at $19. Plug your component cables into that.

Product was in Melbourne, but straining my memory what retailer it was. get back to you.

The adaptor I actually saw was ablock without cables attached, but the following link may be a suitable item for your purpose

Link doesn't appear to work.

I'm definately not getting as nice a picture with the Wintal PVR-X10 than I was getting on my old TEAC box.

Has anybody had any success using RGB/Component over SCART with this unit?

thanks.

All Wintal PVR-X10 units now come shipped with a standard 3xRCA <-> 3xRCA lead (composite + stereo audio) and also scart-21 <-> SVHS+2xRCA (audio).

Wintal makes a scart <-> svideo/composite/audio adaptor (plug - sockets) and also a scart <-> component (plug - sockets).

Retail for either of these is under $20.

Also available are various scart break out leads, good quality and price.

The software in the PVR-X10 and also STB-X5 set top boxes will allow you to select the output from the scart between RGB, YUV or Composite.

For standard definition SVHS should be just fine however.

Also note that the video output from the composite and scart can be both used at once., as well as the analogue RCA audio and scart audio..

Coax digital out is also built .

Does anyone know what's happening with Teac's warranty coverage now they are receivership ?
