I have recently purchased a jvc PDZ42DV4 plasma screen and it is noticable that the picture is slightly off centre, normally to the right side looking at the screen. This leads to a small black pillar box down the side of the screen when watching some DVDs and uneven pillar boxes on digital TV when the footage reverts to 4:3 (news progs etc).Really annoying when you know its there!
Has anyone else seen this on a JVC or other panel?JVC say there is a picture shift function which moves the picture to prevent burn in and is normal!!so the picture is never actually centred poroperly!!
Any ideas out there

Cheers

Hey eddo what STB are you running?Im running a LG and when i set the output on the LG to 1080i my picture is slightly shifted to the right leaving a thin black bar running vetically on the left side of my JVC and also i get the uneven pillar boxes aswell on 4:3 programs. This occurs because i havent done a firmware upgrade on my LG which would fix it but as i run it on 576p i havent bothered. But regarding picture shift on watching a dvd that seems very strange that doesnt happen to me! Steveo is another forum member who has the JVC so hopefully he will read your thread and maybe be of further help.
Cheers Ryan

P.S. By the way eddo other than that problem how are you finding the JVC?

Hi

I haven't noticed this. The picture shift function only works for my set when showing 4:3 DVDs or using the analogue tuner when you have the grey side bars which move slightly.

Have you centred the pic on you STB. Most have a function to allow this.

Hey Ryan

How did you go with the yellow stripe?

Hi steveo i rang JVC and they said no probs bring it in and they will fix but it would be a 3 week turnaround so i said i would see how it goes , which it hasnt come back. They said if i have any further problems to give them a ring, they were quite helpful.By the way to access the hours viewed on the panel it is done via the eservice menu which i dont know how to access, which isnt much help smile.gif

I am running a Teac STB, a cheapo model.I don't think i can change the output? The DVD player is an LG the output is 625p, again i don't know how to change
this.Hopefully it sounds like it is a problem with the external devices otherwise i'm very pleased with the panel.Any other tips?
cheers Chris

Hi Stevo,
i am running a Teac STB will check if you can centre the picture but haven't seen any obvious adjustments. THe dvd player is an LG.I still reckon the picture isn't centred on analogue TV in the panoramic setting, noticable when the screen graphics are split into boxes.(news items ads etc) Otherwise the panel is excellent.
Anyother tips on the JVC
Cheers

I only use the analogue tuner for split screen so haven't noticed any problems.

I used DVD Video essentials (NTSC) to calibrate my screen. All settings were spot on except colour which i reduced to about a third of the distance between the lefthand side and centre (default).

Ok,I've turned off the progreesive scan function on the LGT DVD player and this seems to have solved the problem with the black band.I also found a screen adjust function deep in the teac STB menu and adjusted the x axis to bring the picture back to the right. Will see how it goes. Thanks for your help.
?tell me about the DVD Video essentials not come across this.
