Just noticed on my 2 month old teac 76cm EU3216stf a violet discolouration in the top left corner of the (letterboxed) picture while viewing Jeepers Creepers 2 on foxtel box office.

Effect was most noticeable in the bright yellow cornfield scenes, less noticeable in dark scenes.

So far haven't noticed it on other foxtel or FTA channels....still trying.

Is this foxtel or my tv...?

thanks,

gojiro

Sounds like you have your speaker (magnet) too close to the screen (assuming yours is a CRT TV). This may not be the case, however when I had my non-Home Theater speaker (ie. old stereo speaker) too close to my CRT TV, I had that violet tinge in the top left hand corner. Moved it away and the tint went as well.

On my new plasma, I have the same speaker jammed hard against it, without any discolouration. Hope this helps, as it is an easy fix. If not, then you lost me!

Only thing along those lines is the computer woofer was beside the tv, about one metre from the discolouration. Moved it and it's still there.

For anyone with similar problem, I found out this sort of discolouration to the picture can be fixed by degaussing the tv. Yes, previous comment was correct, the problem is caused by a magnet or magnetic field affecting the inside of the tube.

Easy fix--remove speakers from the room, turn telly off with front button and unplug from wall. Leave overnight and turn back on. Problem should be gone.

After talking with the tech who came by today to look at telly for another issue, apparently even steel window frames can cause this!

He also said that one recent model of tv is set on an east-west axis, and if you place the tv in your house on a north-south axis, the picture will tilt by up to 5 mm and this is factory spec. Anything above this they will replace.

Ive been getting a serious discolouration on my 66cm version - most notably on 4:3 material (pillarbox) - serious discolouration develops within a minute on the left hand side (as green on a white backgrounc) and right hand side (brown on a white background) - it fades within a few minutes of a 16:9 image being displayed.. - Im highly suspect this is a 'feature' of the set but will get around to getting a tech to come and look at it... Ive tried turning the set off (powerbutton on the tv) (not unpluggin from wall tho) - didnt make any differnce, and I wouldnt think it would as the set only displays this characteristic on pillarboxed (or postage-stamped) images.

Cheers,
Bitey
