Hi all,
I'm in the market for a Sony KVHX32M31, or KVHR if affordable.
A trip to DSE, JB and HN showed marked prices being best at DSE, being:
$2000 for the HX, and
$2700 for the HR (special this weekend, normally $3198.)
HN wanted $3200 for the HR today. JB $3000.
However I think I've seen people on the forum saying they paid < $2500 for the HR recently and < $1900 for the HX. For under $2500 I might buy the HR, but $2700 is too much, especially as the difference might be marginal on a 76cm set anyway.. (opinions welcome).
Any suggestions on better places to buy? Which of these places is actually going to drop the most when negotiating? Any other recent experiences?
thanks
Hamish

Megamart part of Myers chain in Sydney Alexandria excellent service and returns policy if you need it
Also noticed a bit of a price drop on the ticketed RRP of the Toshiba 32SW9UA @ 2499 i think from memory which is also an excellent HD fine pitch tele
as for haggling ....yup just ask for Ray or Ben or Toma

I got the HR32 for less than 2500... but was a very good deal. You should be able to talk JB down to close to 2500, especially if you are buying a STB aswell.
I got mine from Myers, making use of a 10% sale + 10% discount through a myers source card. Might be worth looking into (although without the sale its probably not as good).

I was after one hr32 myself. I was in the city store of myer sydney today and found pq different between hr32 and hr34. The pq of hr34 is much better for some reason. You can go and have a look yourself.
The tishiba 86cm one was priced the same as hr32 and the tosh looks really good.
I couldn't compare the two , as the hr32 was being fed the foxtel **** at the time.

The hx32 is a finished model being replaced by the DA32 or SA32 the hr will continue for a while longer but if you shop around there should be some really good deals on the hx32 and as crt is getting harder so sell due to plasma pricing they should be jumping on you to get rid of an older model..

Do you mean the HR36? Never heard of a 34, not mentioned at sony.com.au.

SA32 isn't HD capable, so it isn't a replacement..
DA32 looks interesting though as the specs seem to be much the same. The RRP matches the HX32 also.
Thanks

For those that care, the new Sony models are made in Malaysia, the HX/HR are made in Japan.

Sony tell me that the HX/HR are now also made in Malaysia. No more Japanese CRT's from Sony at all. My Harvey Norman has a Japanese made HR32 on display. They're trying to sell this demo unit to me for $2625. Or, I can get a Malaysian made one for $2675, brand new. Any recommendations? Higher prices than I've seen on this board, I know, but I'm in regional Victoria, and there's far less competion, so prices are, sadly, always higher it seems. What are people thoughts on demo units? Something that's been running for 8 hours a day for several weeks doesn't seem like a good idea to me, unless the price was right.

A side-by-side comparison is the only way to go.. and, hey if they are charging a bit extra, thay can work a little harder for your money I say.

I bought a KVHX32M31 for $1945 at Domayne last weekend.
Am extremely happy with it so far, a few overscan adjustments still need to be made, but that's a problem with the HR too I understand.
Just remember all the other costs when making the decision:
connections @ say $50 each
STB
DVD
...
(mine is labelled as made in Japan on the back)

Unless it was a HHUUUUUUGGGGGGEEEE savings, I personally wouldnt bother (in the context of CRTs that is). I remember having a sticky in a HN store and a couple of guys seriously man-handled a Philips WS TV - it looked ok on the outside but something made a crack sound.... I can be swayed to by ex-demo on other things, but I couldnt be arsed risking a large screen TV that I would have to haul back to base.

Must be an oxymoron. Their KVHX32M31 price is $2799 slashed to $2499, yet $2499 is the RRP. Their KVHR32M31 price is $3999 slashed to $2999, yet the RRP is $3499.
Almost all of the Panasonic 76cm models listed are obselete.

KVHR32M31 for $2236? Wow. Best I've seen in Melbourne was $2700.
I'd buy one for $2236, but for the higher price I'm thinking of the HX instead. Not convinced about the worth of HD on the 76cm set; might be better to plan to upgrade to HD LCD in a few years instead.

hmoffat,
FYI, Dick Smith PH has the KVHR32M31 on sale at the moment for $2596 although that still might be outside of your price range.
I'm in the market for a KVHR32M31 myself so if anyone knows of a better price than this let us know!
Cheers

Forget about megamart and Bing Lee in Alexandria; try Good Guys in Alexandria, if you are in Sydney that is. You can get it for lower than 2596 (exactly how much depends on you bargaining skills), even though they don't have it in stock. They have hr36 (2) and hx (more) in stock for a long time and my hunch is they are eager to get rid of them by a much better discount than others. Make sure you get to talk to the OWNER of the shop, and promise you are going to buy other things from them soon/next year.... The owner is a nice bloke.
