Have just purchased wintal pvr-x10 . Everything is fine except when I connect the s/pdif connection to the coaxial connection on my a/v amp via a coaxial cable I get breakdown in sound when I change channels.Sounds like a continuous shrill.I am in the Latrobe Valley in Victoria. All the channels I receive except 1 of the ABC channels , has A and D grouped together denying me the option of picking one or the other source on the pvr.The ABC channel has seperate option for analogue and digital and by selecting digital I get digital sound but when I change channels the shrill returns.Sometimes the longer I wait before changing channels , it may not crash but if it is only a short time (like I'm skipping thru channels) it is guaranteed to crash. Everything is ok using rca leads but naturally I am only getting an analogue signal. I hope this makes sense to somebody as it is difficult to explain.

Try changing the Digital Audio format. The options are PCM, AC-3, dts.
You can reach this menu by going through
Menu/Main Menu/Edit Settings/Signal Output/Digital Audio

thanks for looking . I just tried every combination and they all crashed . PCM is an unremovable option

Ok - I plugged in my old Sony EP9ES Digital-to-Analogue converter which displays the frequency of the SPDIF signal from the PVR-X10 & this is what I found.

When A&D are together, the output is 48KHz. When D is separate (only ABC for you), the frequency is 44 KHz. (48Khz is the sound output frequency for DVDs while 44 is from CDs)

What is strange is that my Sony is only able to decode the 48 kHz signal but not the 44kHz signal. You seem to get the opposite effect. I also tried different combinations of PCM, AC3, dts.

Will have to investigate further.

I use my PVR-X10 STB connected to the coaxial input of my Yamaha RX-V430 Amp. We only have a digital audio signal on ABC here, I have set the ABC to option 2 (D for Digital). When I switch between ABC (set to D for Digital) the amp detects the signal and changes to digital. When I change channels to another (set to A D for Analog) the amp changes and displays PCM. It sounds like your amp is having trouble receiving the different audio signals. From memory there was a DGTEC STB that had similar problems with certin brand amps.
Good luck
